That's a great story as it brings up the concept of fate (or destiny or whatever word you want to use) vs. free choice.
Are coincidences just a way of telling us that we had no choice, it was going to happen anyway, or are they something else?
I used to study the occult quite a bit and part of the teachings when learning Magick (note the extra k at the end, this moves it away from stage magic) you are taught that coincidence is an integral part of our reality. Coincidences (according to what I was taught) are the subconscious sections of our minds altering reality to fit what you really desire/need at the time.
The trick to magick was being able to focus that and then cause it to happen without unbalancing (going against the grain if you will) the process.
So, um, I guess that in short, yes, I'm a firm believer in coincidence. I face it every day...for example, I'll be talking to a friend on a specific subject (and I mean detailed, like a discussion on a specific aspect of quantum physics and how it can be read when viewing the source of our solar system through vibration) and then the next day the magazine that I pick up at random has a brand new article on that very subject.
Other times it's when perhaps you are hungry for something specific and the next thing you know, a family member brings you the news that you are all going out to a diner that carries (specializes in) that sort of food.
Meeting up with an old school chum while walking down the street reminiscing about those very school days with that work chum.
I suppose it will come down to personal beliefs on the matter, but I don't really believe in fate or destiny, as I think that we make our own.
Love as always,
Sebastian

thats just what it is, a coincidence. There are so many things going on every second of the day in everyone's life there is bound to be some coincidences. Some people like to play it up more because it makes their life more mysterious

I choose to extract meaning from coincidences. sometimes,,, well most of the time, They turn out to just be happen stance and nothing more.
I wished a few things ment something.. as far as coincedences go. but alas... it was all just life.
Of course I speak of love.
Love, the first of all coincidences, the most important and the most hoped for.

Hi, to me there is no such thing as coincidence. Rather, everything is predestined by G-D. Many such instances happened to me. It's good to keep like a diary and record such events so you'll have something to look back on and be thank-full.

God has seen the future and the beginning and the current times. He knows the outcome of our choices even before we are born, yet we are beings of free will, capable of making our own decisions. (I know this doesn't seem to fit the question...please bear with me)
Sometimes coincidences occur to guide us along the way. Sometimes, I think, it is God's way of getting our attention.
