I've got toiletries, books, games; anything YOU found essential?

thank you all (well, most of you) for the suggestions! Incidentally, I'm a grown-up, so probably won't be allowed in the play room. Bummer.

Outside of the toiletries, toothbrush, comb, mirror, watch...take a notebook & a good pen. I found it very helpful to jot down questions I wanted to ask the Dr and then jot down his answers as well. Make a list of things you need to do after the surgery, etc. Also, and this is a biggy...take a phone card with you, and phone numbers of friends, family members, etc. If you have a living will or advance directives, take a copy of those as well. Hope your stay in the hosp goes well...

A bath rob, or some sort of rob. Take clean socks, undergarments, deodorant, tooth brush, tooth paste. Soap, and shampoo, because Hospital soap is not very good on your skin. House shoes because you may want to walk around.
Something to read and games to play to occupy your time. Which you already know. Don't take snacks unless it is ok with your Dr. they may want you on a diet so you don't get sick.
Good Luck!!!

I had two overnight stays in the hospital and I found it helpful to bring an iPod, cards (ei Phase10), journal, and book you love to read.

Definitely toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc. Books, MP3 player/CD player with headphones, maybe an eyemask to help block out light so you can sleep whenever you want. I even brought my own pillows when I gave birth to my son.

PJ's, under garmets, thick socks, books, mp3, and the most important thing... sneak in snacks! Just trust me on that one. My husband kept having to bring me stuff to snack on when I was in the hospital. Food was small, boring, and very early.
