I have a 15 lb. cat (8Ball) and he's hot, but I don't want to get him shaved. He only has about 1/2 inch long hair.

Cats have hair for a reason. It insulates them from both heat & cold. If your cat is honestly 15# he's probably obese. That will cause him to overheat. Cats should have a waistline. You should be able to easily feel ribs pressing your palms on his sides. If you truly think your cat is hot you can put a little cool water on his foot pads or better yet, lay a damp towel in 1 of his spots. If he's hot he'll use it.

Don't worry about that stuff. These people can't tell if your cat is overweight just by its weight alone. You have to know its height and length. Some cats are just long tall big cats. I had a very large persian that looked rail skinny at 15. My little tabby cat would be too fat to walk at 15. They cant tell you that info by weight alone wihtout knowing its body length and height. If your cat is fat your vet will address it and advise you what catfood to switch to and how much to give. vets are good at advice like that.
as far as the cat being hot and the solutions for that, that I do not know.
Hmm. My vet has shaved my cat a number of times, to get to the skin to do a procedure or clean a wound. Cats look funny shaved.
Just turn on your a/c and spoil your kitty rotten like I do mine. :P

Really, why bother if it's short? Well with fur he's still going to be hot. I guess you could just shear it real low like a buzz cut.
Years ago we had a long haired cat that my mother used to go ahead and shave her in the summer. Got to the point the cat had NO problem with this at all and loved it. Looked like a poodle cat with the tail, head, and legs left unshaved. lol

Why are you even asking this question? Does the cat have a skin disorder? If yes, then you have no choice, if you want a healthy cat. If not, buy a pet brush and use it.
How do you know the cat is hot? Is he talking to you?
Oh yeah, he is overweight, put him on a diet.

I have a shorthair cat and I have her shaved down. The hair grows back quickly and my cat likes having the hair gone. She struts all over the house.

you first need to brush him alot to get rid of excess hair. cats naturally lose hair when it is hot to regulate their own body temperature. it is not a good idea to shave your cat. Just make sure you get rid of their excess hair by brushing it so your cat doesnt get hairballs.
You must also remember that a cat's body temperature is different to ours, and they like to be very warm at all times.
What happens if you shave him and he gets cold? you don't want him to get sick.
