There are some people that resume sex much sooner than 6 weeks after childbirth. Usually, though, unfortunately, most women regret it. Sex is much much different after baby, especially if you are breastfeeding. I had sex 3 weeks after my baby was born (by cesarean, at that) - it was very painful. Even in the vaginal area - even though I didn't even have a vaginal birth! After childbirth, your vaginal area is much much drier - especially if you are breastfeeding. Unfortunately, as I've heard from alot of other mothers who have older children than my baby, it lasts a while. My daughter is 10 months old and sex is still painful because I have no lubrication down there. And the stuff you buy in the store just isn't as good as the natural stuff. I dont know how different things are when you bottle feed but I know that soon after childbirth there will be little difference. I am hoping for myself that when my period returns ( still no sign of it ) sex will be a little better for both of us.
I have a friend who had sex a week after her cesarean and she went into convulsions afterwards. In retrospect I really think it is safest to wait until the six week mark, or at least a month - to let your body heal.
On that note, whenever you decide to do it - GET lubrication! You'll probably need it.

You will have a 6 week post partum check up. This is when the doctor makes sure everything has healed properly and provides you with your prescription for birth control if you decide to go on it for awhile. Some people just can't wait the full 6 weeks, and don't have problems. If you had a tear or an episiotomy, its best to make yourself wait. If you didn't, and you don't make it quite that far (good ol' heat of the moment), the doctor will "shake his head" but it won't be the end of the world either. Most people are so tired though, sex can be the last thing on their minds.

Most people say to wait until 6 weeks. This is primarily because that's when they see their OB for a checkup, and want to wait for the doctor's ok.
But, in my opinion - if you're not having any bleeding or pain, and if your stiches have healed & are gone (if you have had them), then sex is ok. If you have sex while you still have bleeding, you severely increase your risk of having a uterine infection.
Just make sure that you use protection. You can get pregnant again that soon after giving birth.

Your doctor will probably release you to have sex at your six week check-up unless something is not healed properly. Don't forget about the other ways you and your partner can pleasure each other, sometimes this can be just as satisfying without the risks of injury.

At least 6 weeks or when you have your doctor's permission. It takes 6 weeks for you to heal after the birth of a baby. Congratulations!

Atleast until 6 weeks after or until your doctor says it is safe. You want to make sure that you are completely healed before trying to have sex.

Wait at least until after your 6 week checkup. Your doctor will give you the go ahead if all is well.
