Isn't it closed-minded to assume religious people are closed-minded?

Hmmm?

It's not fair to stereotype. Some of the religious people I know who are close-minded have lived inside a bubble. They have always been surrounded by people just like them, who believe what they believe, think like they think and share the same general lifestyle. Inside this type of "closed system" it is difficult to imagine anything different. When someone comes along who represents something different, it forces them to re-examine everything they've ever known. For some, this is too uncomfortable and too scary, so they have to shut off the idea that other people are different or that other types of people even exist. This is why they tend to convert everybody or condemn everyone else to Hell. This is the same theory behind racism, sexism and all the other intolerant behavior.

What are you a hermit? There are different people all over the world that are closed minded. I'm a spiritual person and I am open minded as many other people I know that are not religious.

Just because someone believes in right and wrong, truth and lies, fact and fiction, doesn't make them close-minded. Having faith doesn't mean that someone is close-minded. People who believe in evolution say creation is impossible. Are they being close-minded? Of course not. But if you say you believe that God created the world, and evolution is a goofy fiction made up to give people an excuse not to need God, then you're close minded.

Religious people, and Christians especially, are constantly being accused of being closed to new ideas, intolerant and unfair. What happened to the freedom to believe what you want to believe? Other "non-religious" groups are just as "close-minded" as religious people, and they're not getting hassled. Nice double-standard.

Not all religious ppl are closed minded! I am an Atheist, but pretty much everyone I know is Christian. My friends and family are very open minded. I don't know why you would think that all religious folks are closed minded- but you need to realize that it's not true.

I completely understand your point. I am very religious, and I am very involved with my local church. I know many people who are closed minded. I have two points to make to you:

1)not all religious people are closed minded. please be more specific.

2)to answer your question: i personally believe that most closed minded religious people are that way because they are not willing to spend time figuring out exactly what is allowed and what isnt allowed, and how we as Christians should respond to it. Instead they would prefer to sit back on their previous beliefs that the old-school churches taught them and not think for themselves.

Aren't you a little closed minded for generalizing and assuming religious people are closed minded?

That's a prejudice question. I'm religious. I'm not closed minded. There are fanatics in every aspect of life. Yes, there are religious fanatics. They can be so extreme that they end up not following the word of God while trying to preach it to others. It's sad when that happens. Just remember... the fanatics really do care. They are just trying to do what they feel is right. Cut them a little slack.

I have my own problems with some religious people, but not all, because not all are closed-minded.

Some religious people are very open, but some religions and religious leaders want people to "give up their eyes" and see only what and how their teaching goes. And many people do, not bothering to see the world for themselves.

Not all religious people are close minded,

Im not, I am very open minded, I respect other peoples religions and I will respect the person as long as they repect me.

ALOT of you people here saying your not and getting all defensive ARE close minded.

Learn the definition of close minded, reflect on actions you have taken, and then decide if you are or not.
