Unschooling is another term for "Natural Learning", meaning that children take the lead in learning what they are most interested in, which increases the chances that they might actually learn and not regurgitate facts for tests and grades. Classroom teachers and parents sometimes call this "teachable moments". Unschoolers' style is to learn "whatever", "whenever", which for some home educated families it works, but for other families following a curriculum is better. My opinion is that all people learn differently and at different paces. If you are able to educate your children at home and you are doing so because your children will thrive this way compared to a classroom setting, go for it! There is much support out there. Search the web. Also remember to check your state's regulations. You can start at: www.hslda.org

I think that is a question only you can answer. We do not know you or your children. What problems are they having? What kind of schooling have they been in? How old are they? If you want to pull them out of public school and school them at home then do some research. There are several curriculum out there for that. There are also charter schools on line to help you teach them. If you wish to unschool them then you need to do the research there also. Remember that these are your kids and you know them best. Also keep in mind that you are making the decisions that will effect their lives drastically.

That choice is up to you. Back in the days of Ben Franklin and George Washington, there were no public schools so kids were free to explore until about junior high. Mom taught them basic reading and math. Then, if their parents had the means, they went to a private prep school to prepare for college and a vocation.
I wouldn't completely unschool - certainly they need to learn to read, write, and do basic math. There will come a time when more structure is needed, but that may not be until they're 10 or 11.
If you feel comfortable with it, go for it!

I dont think unschooling is an appropriate term. You mean homeschool. Should I homeschool my kids....Because the mothers lap is the first school of a child and probably one of the best in this day and age...
If you feel that they would do better in a one on one basis, which most do, go for it. There will be other ways that you can incorporate the socialization factor. Kids are never put in seclusion. They are constantly interacting with other kids in life. But sending them to public school, they may intereact with not so good kids (i dont used the word bad kids because it is really the parents that are messing their kids up!)
Im also debating whether to send my daughter to school or homeschool her. I really feel like she was excelling when I taught her myself when she was younger. The lack of one on one attention has left her lazy and careless. Shes a busy bee and the slow pace of the classroom teaching is giving her too much idle time and therefore time to cause trouble in class...
Hmmm....Im starting to lean more towards homeschooling now than before I answered the question....
Hmm.....

No No NO!! I homeschooled and pretty much went by the school curriculum. That is what you should do if you decide to pull them out of school. Unschooling has to do with letting them do what they want to do, and not what needs to be done. They need to learn. You, as their most important teacher, need to make sure that they do. If you unschool, then you are robbing them of their right to a GOOD education. That would be a shame because they will then have to function in a world that is educated, and they will not be. Homeschooling- good if structured, bad if you are unschooling. Please do some research on the pros and cons of unschooling, homeschooling, and schools before you make any decisions. After all, this will affect their whole life.

Read the book "A Thomas Jefferson Education" by Oliver DeMille. You can buy it at gwc.edu in the bookstore. While it's not exactly unschooling, it is similar, and a great way to go.

Did they learn something at school that is against your beliefs?
What you need to keep in mind that in life, your children are going to see a TV show, speak to someone or reda somethingthat doesn't agree with what you have taught them. You just need to keep an open dialogue between them and keep re-inforcing morals and such to them.
