My cat has a large lump on her stomach. It is oval shaped and raised. I don't feel it could be a tumor. She had kittens a few months ago, and I know it wasn't there before. She is eating, drinking, urinating and defecating as normal. What could it be from? I'm making her a hospital appointment on Monday but I wanted to know if it's something I should be distraught over. I'm just worried. Any help?

The fact that she is behaving normally is a good sign. Getting her to the vet soon is a good idea. It could be an abscess or a hernia. A tumor is a possibility, but certainly not the only one. Have it checked out, and also think about having her fixed!

my cat had a lump in his stomach once and I took him to the vet thinking he must have yet another abscess.. but when I got to the vet, the vet said that it definitely wasn't an abscess, and she really didnt know for sure what it was. I asked if it might be a hernia or something else and she said no. She examined the cat and then she gave him antibiotics and told me if it didnt go away in a week to come back...and it went away in about a week. I gave my kitty the antibiotics everyday like the vet said. The cat seemed to just go back to normal .

I know how you feel. I was very very upset too. I thought I was going to find out my kitty had a tumor or something.

Stay calm. Kitties get infections, cysts, lymph nodes swell, abscesses....

Do have the vet check the cat but don't panic yet. It might be an infection that will go away with antibiotics.

I think it sounds like a hernia. It's when there is a small tear in muscle that allows some fat that surrounds the organs to push out. It's not that uncommon. It can happen to women who are pregnant. The pregnacy can cause a strain on the abdominal muscles that creates the hernia. It's not serious at all, but it may require minor surgery to repair the muscle. If part of the intestine comes through it can cause a blockage that can be serious. But if there is a blockage you will know because she will vomit, have a fever, stop eating, etc. So don't worry about it, just take her to a vet when you can.

It may not be anything to get panicky about, though. It could just a cyst. Try not to worry. Much easier said than done, but your cat needs you to help her take care of her and the kittens. There might be an emergency pet hospital in your area. Call and talk to them if you are very worried.

Could it be an unborn kitten? If not that could be cancer and if she gave birth a few months ago you should have the kittens checked also.

ok, my cat has had "lumps". I found out that they were just mats. (mats are little bits of hair that is like stuck together and will never come out) we cut those and she is fine. it also could be cancer. i would take your cat to the vet. it is just a mat, cut it off before it gets too big. mats that get out of control can kill animals. just to let you know

Call the local animal hospital on the phone and ask them. No reason for you to worry.

hope that helps and your cat gets better!

There's no telling. Don't freak over it yet, hopefully it's nothing. Just take her to the vet as soon as you can, chances are it's nothing at all.
