Most of society believes that it is the "right" thing to do. To control the pet population. There are enough orphaned animals as it is, some of them not even lucky enough to ever have a home. In a way, i regret neutering my dog. He is an indoor dog and rarely gets out of a securely fenced yard, unless being walked on a leash. I do feel bad about removing his male-hood, but i think my vet talked us into it. He still humps people's legs. And they're most likely not to die. Totally up to you. Just don't start breeding your dog for money, like alot of a**holes out there.

Spaying or neutering your pet IS the right thing to do, for many reasons. It's actually healthier for them and can help them live longer lives. Spaying your female pet will eliminate the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and reduce the chances of getting breast cancer. Neutering male animals eliminates the possibility of them getting testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease. Your animal will be less likely to leave your home (which could cause them to get in an accident or fight and be injured or killed).
The main reason to do it is probably because most of their offspring will be killed if you don't do it. The Humane Society of the U.S. estimates that 3-4 million animals are euthanized by shelters each year. Many of these are adoptable animals, but there just aren't enough homes for all the animals that are produced by people's pets.

Well, i am sure that you will get alot of yes and no's in this question, cause alot of folks have different feelings about their pet(s) getting fixed or not. Alot people out there believe it or not don't care if their cat or dog has twenty or thirty puppies , or kittens. That's a big exaceration , on the number of puppies, and kittens i am sure. Being a pet owner myself i have had to deal with this problem and unless you have had a pet(s) you can't begin to understand the delima a person(s) is faced with daliy with their pet. They moved or something and that pet is pregnant and has kittens ,or puppies whatever the case may be and they can't carry them with them and or can't afford to feed all 8-10 kittens, or puppies cause some animals do have lots of THEM !! It's a hard choice to make to not have those precious little ones, it has been for my family and i , but , i would rather have the animal fixed one or other than to have to put them all to sleep cause you can't take them with you and you can't give them away and yet you can't feed them either, LEAVES A PERSON IN A BIG RUT HUH ? i HAVE HAD cats, kitten, and puppies and dogs for a good part of my life on and off . When those little ones grow up that need more food, and more space and you have to have more money to keep them feed . I also say if you can't afford to feed them and can't afford to have them fixied or taken to the vet for shots and things that they need then yessssss it's better to have to take of one pet then to have to take of a bunch for awhile then to go thru trying to find them homes or worse, like i said putting them all to sleep, no one wants a bunch or kittens or puppies. Most folks can barely afford now and days to raise and feed one.

As one of my favorite comedians, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, would say, "That Bob Barker is the most evil SOB on the face of this earth!" But seriously, I think this subject is a double-sided knife. On one side, I could see why someone would have their pet spayed or neutered. That would control the pet population in this country. On the other side of the coin, you have people who want to breed their pets and have large families of them. So like I said, one side of me says yes...the other...well...I'm not all to sure about. This is a very good question by the way.

The surgery is done quite frequently in order to prevent an even greater over population of kittens and puppies.
People undergo similar (not exactly the same) operations when they no longer want to make babies:
For human female it is called tubal ligation.
For human male it is vasectomy.

If by how would you feel you mean how would I feel if I was the animal and it was done to me I would hate you! Although spaying and neutering are like when people say it's for the best or for your own good. I spay/neutered my pets. It was for their own good. My dog is very small even for her very small breed. If she were to try and have puppies it would probably have killed her. It really is the responsible thing to do.

I feel that if you do not want to add more unwanted cats and dogs, you will have this done for the safety of your pets and the all ready over population of the unwanted or uncared pets we already have to deal with in todays soceity.

It's the best way to go always. If the animal is a female, you have to deal with a period, if its a male then its constant humping. Save yourself the headache.

Well, my opinion I think it is good. I knew someone who wouldn't get their cats fixed and they ended up with about 50 or so cats. So many the neighbors were leaving out antifreeze and killing them. They were reported but never caught doing it. the people with the cats were told if they we caught with more cats they could get fined. so they had to find homes for most of the cats. But sadly the neighbors killed most of them.

Yes it seems right. I think they should spay/neuter people who screw like animals and have way too many kids and don't know who their baby's daddys are.
