I know Jesus was just a man, a great man, and I get by in life just fine. I cant help but think, however, that certain people need to believe in the supernatural aspect of him to get by in life and without his crutch things could be a lot worse in the world.

I am not sure how my question could be considered inflammatory as it was obviously directed at atheist, agnostics, or other people that feel Jesus was just a man.

I am certainly no Holy Roller, but I do think the world is a far better place because of Jesus. Something incredible occurred over 2000 years ago that still affects millions of people on this planet.

No other religion before or since has the same incredible message. God becomes as man and takes the burden of sin upon his shoulders and blesses humankind with the promise of eternal life.

Fable or no, this is something I am more than willing to believe. I certainly won't push it on anyone else and you won't find me sitting in the pews on Sundays, but when I am hiking in God's church he knows my heart.

First off, the world was never without Jesus, He was God from the beginning of creation and continues to be so through eternity. Secondly, the idea that He was just a good man, a good teacher, a prophet is pure dribble. He claimed messiahship, He claimed to be God. As C.S. Lewis put it, you have three choices, either He was a liar, a lunatic or Lord. You have no other choice.

back when i was in college, more years back than i care to count, i was in an honors seminar, and the text that we studied was, if i remember the title correctly, 'the greatest thinkers of all time"-it covered philosophers, inventors, writers, leaders, and the impact their thoughts and teachings had on the world...we read the book, and discussed the different thinkers in turn, and the conclusion we reached as a group was that Jesus' teachings had the greatest impact-in various ways, from politics to religion, to things we simply take for granted...charity, social justice, equality before the law...i wish i could find a copy of that book, but being an impoverished freshman, i sold all my textbooks at the end of the semester in order to help pay for the nest semester's textbooks...

You clearly intend to spark controversy with this question, but I'll answer. It would be worse without Jesus, because he is the only savior for a sinful world. Without his sacrifice, I'd go to hell.

The evidence for the Divine aspects of His life are overwhelming. Both religious and secular scholars agree that that can not be denied.

Are you saying that incidents like in inquisition, the crusades, witch trials and so on and so on (to call purely a number of the non-contested ones) characterize undesirable end results of Christianity?
