What are you planning to make the cake out of? If you do not want your puppy sick on his b-day, make it from foods he is accustomed to having already or ones that are O.K. for dogs.
Will bi-peds be eating the cake, as well? If so, obviously you aren't going to form the cake from dog food. In this case, go with carrot cake(minimal frosting.) or apple cake. You don't want to use a store mix, because the texture is so fine that it will be like a clump of dough going down your dog's throat. Their teeth are different from ours and not designed to masticate certain foods.
For decorations, consider Cheerios, Rice Crispies, Chex, Fruity Pebbles. Cereals aren't bad for your dog as long as you don't use the flaky ones which will not be adequately chewed and could cause discomfort when your dog tries to swallow.
Another option would be to make a giant decorated dog buscuit for him. There are doggie recipe books out there or go on line.
Keep in mind, CHOCOLATE KILLS DOGS. no chocolate. I don't give a rats *** how many ignoramuses tell you how much their dogs like it. Potato chips are another no-no. And, of course, many dogs die from punctured intestines after eating chicken bones.
Here are some foods your dog can safely consume that will actually enhance his diet: Carrots, Apples, rice, Certain cereals, Fish oil, Peanut butter, Moderate amount of nuts and raisins.
Don't listen to some of the snotty answers you got, although I do think "cat" was pretty funny. Anyway, Have fun!

I'm not really sure what you are asking. Is it like a pet dog or like a black man that is your dog Please specify. A lot times black people call themselves things like dog or the N word, which makes us whites confused and makes us feel as if we should avoid the whole thing because we don't want to offend anybody. But, If it is a canine dog, you should not give him cake, frosting or any sprinkles.

if you don't have a specialty store for dogs/pets, your best bet is to go to a health food store and ask for carob chips. they look just like choc. chips, but taste like..wax if you want the truth. however regular sprinkles are sugar based and that is not healthy 4 dogs. believe me, most dogs go through it so fast they don't notice the little chips. i walk dogs for a living i spend a great deal of time at dog parties....Carob chips harmless and decorative. have fun. U mite get 1 dog (like my 15 yr old mutt who will eat the cake and spit every chip out, i swear you can't get ANYTHING past him! but its all fun. i dont know how he does it.

that is really nice, I've never heard of a birthday party for a dog. maybe you should try something on-line to get them, like under yahoo, and type doggy sprinkles.
