reinstall Windows XP using the cd-rom and when it asks if you want to format the drive say yes and make it ntsf format. It will wipe out everything and make it one partition instead of two and put windowsxp only.

Is windows 98 installed in a different partition than WinXP?
Which partition is the system using to boot (start)?

If you have a partition that has win98 but the pc uses the partition of winXP to boot, then you can safely remove the win98 partition. If everything is on the same partition, chances are that you will have two windows directories (like Windows and WinXP).
In that case I guess that you can simply delete the win98 folder.

In the case that winXP got installed in the same folder as win98, then I'm afraid that you'll have to reinstall everything from scratch.

Format the Win98 Partition from within XP.
Or use the XP CD from boot up to remove the 98 section and format it to NTFS. It should ask if you would like to merge with your primary XP partition. YES.
Good luck. Don't forget to backup your files!
