Go to your local pet shelter.
The adoption fee will be around $75, but for that, you get a cat with all it's shots, pest treated, spayed or neutered, already tested negative for feline aids and feline leukemia, and one that is healthy.

That is actually a very reasonable fee, especially for what you get.

Feline aids and feline leukemia are very contagious and very common, and deadly. If you get a free cat from an ad somewhere, you run a high chance of getting one that is infected. So you will need to get it tested, which will run you more than the adoption fee.

If you don't find a cat you llike at the local shelter, wait two weeks and go check again, and/or go to one in the next town and check.

Good Luck!!

Try petfinder.com. They won't be free, but the adoption fee will go towards protecting other animals.

And remember that even if the animal is low cost to acquire, you are still resopnsble for altering it, keeping up on vaccinations, teeth cleanings, maintenance check-ups, and possible emergencies. If you can't afford a several hundred dollar vet visit, don't take on the responsibility of caring for a life.

Good luck and I hope you find something that suits your family! : )

It's kitten season. Your local shelter should be swimming in them. Adoption saves lives and you get lots of "extras" for one low price.
I know you said free, but you have to pay for shots and for spaying or neutering and different tests which can get expensive. It is so much cheaper to go to a shelter.

Try Meow Cat Rescue.org it is located in Kirkland, WA.
Shelter pets need a home more than breeders or pet stores need your money. Please adopt a homeless pet.
