Why are some people anti-war and/or anti-military? Do you not realize that it is because of war you have the ability to speak your mind and go on forums like this one? Do you not realize that if it were not for the military and war you wouldnt be speaking english? Be thankful for those who have died so that you can live in the way you see fit. Be thankful for the miltary and veterans and how about saying thank you once in a great while.

For Greg- I do vote, everytime the polls are open, no matter what seemingly insignificant position. Costa Rica? Not even gonna comment. And I am former military (USN) and my husband is as well (USMC). He fought in Iraq during the first days of the war when the country was actually liberated. I do write my elected officials as well as call them when I support something or when I disagree with a policy. I have posed this thought on here solely because I saw someone running off at the mouth about the war and the military and is pissed me off. And by the way, my husband got a helI of alot more thank you's in Iraq for being there than he has gotten here. And I must say, he has gotten a helI of alot of them here. SO...dont believe everything you see on CNN. I'm not "flag-waving" because of the anniversary of the birth of our great nation. I'm flag-waving because I'm very very proud of my country, the miltary, and especially of my husband who is a hero in EVERY sense of the word.

Although I understand your question of why are some anti war or anti military. Having served this wonderful country I would like to answer by saying. War is and always has been a last effort to achieve freedom and democracy. It is not war that has given us these inalienable rights to speak freely and worship as we please but it is the defense of these rights ( regretfully through war) that our men and women stand ready to fight to maintain them both here and abroad. You are very much right in saying we should thank our veterans and those serving actively at this time. For the ability to voice our opinions without fear of repercussion and to live a life where we have the choice of being for or against war or anything else we so choose. This is and has been the only country to allow these liberties and although I do not agree with those who are against our military families I do honor the fact that they have the right to their opinion. Not sure if this answers you or not but thought I would throw it out there for speculation.

Costa Rica does not have an army or air force - are they having any of the problems or issues you are talking about? No. As for the English language, I guess that depends on what country you are referencing. Your statement is too vague and general, daresay, not informed. I think you are referring to the USA. I am sure Iraqis feel quite different about your statement. By the way, do you vote? Do you write your elected officials on issues that you are concerned about? Do you take classes and actually read a spectrum of books and magazines? Or, because it is an American holiday, are you waving the flag ( figuratively ) because you saw some sad show on TV about a veteran?

If you trace back the money of the anti-war movement you find that the whole thing is a front for communism based in fun filled places like North Korea. The anti-war movement is COMPLETELY illigitimate. They care NOTHING for the morality of war. What they are after is to make sure the US loses wars. There are two reasons for this. The first is they want to overthrow our democracy and replace it with communism. They hope that this could happen in the aftermath of the US losing a major war and suffering millions of casualties. The other is a general support of genocide. Understand that all forms of marxism, when you get right down to its most basic nature, are really just rationalizations for extreme evil, especially genocide. Hundred of millions of innocent people have been put to death in various marxist causes....soviet union, china, nazi germany (national SOCIALISM), cuba, north korea, and vietnam. This last is especially important. The genocide that happened after we pulled out of vietnam was the POINT of the antiwar protest that happened here. It was this genocide that they were after all along. The anti-war movement switched gears after the war to make sure the US did not intervene in that genocide. The main mover and shaker in this was none other than John Kerry.
This speaks VOLUMES about where the left, liberals and the democratic party are coming from. They aren't misguided fools. They are heinously evil people who know EXACTLY what they are doing.

You are absolutely right!
Most Americans think the rest of the world is just like here. They are too under-educated to realize that this place, this America is very different from most of the world.
Every freedom we take from granted was won by the shedding of blood from our young men and women. They have kept us free and independent during too many wars that threatened that freedom.
The most funny thing is that the same things we happily accept (gays, religious freedom, women's rights, etc.) are still viewed as radical throughout most of the world. If they think we are so bad, they should move to Syria, Iran, North Korea, or any of a hundred other places. They would quickly find themselves arrested or persecuted for the same things we allow.

Many people are scared naturally of war and they dont want to die. Worse if they are so scared that they would rather be enslaved than fight for their freedoms. They will eventually forget and even spit at the sacrifices that others endure so they could afford to forget and spit at them. I guess thats the problem with all of us. But do remember that not all anti-war people are weaklings that deserve death. Many are just well intentioned folks who may feel betrayed by their leaders or think the cause their fighting for isnt righteous or just anymore. I guess that if the heroes who died knew that they would be betrayed by the future generations like this they would protest too.

War also shuts down on those same liberties. During wartime, civil liberties often decrease for the sake of "national security." You often can't say things contrary to the war, the government, or be sympathetic to the enemy without bringing trouble and the police on your heels. Thousands of people are jailed without a trial during wartimes.
Do you not realize hundreds of thousands of civilians in Iraq are displaced without electricity, without water, without means of getting food because of war? That is one of the many reasons that some people are anti-war.

I agree that war is sometimes inevitable, but never good.
Some people are anti war because they are sick of killing and hatred,...we all should be.
I am very patriotic and support our troops with all my heart.
We would be very gullable to think that all wars are necessary.
Many are caused by greed, or pure hatred simply because of different religious beliefs.
As for anti military,....we should never be.
I hope all americans support our troops and thank god we have them to protect us,....but dont think our government is any more honest than any other.
God bless our troops!!!

There are ways to obtain freedom without war. Iceland is just as free as we are (more, in my opinion) and they don't nor have never had an army. This is also true about Switzerland.
