use a regular donut recipe, but when it comes to cooking them, just put some oil in a frying pan, about a half inch deep, it will pop if you turn it up to high, so watch out for it, and make sure you have a good apron on. if it caches fire because you have the fire too hot, dint try to put it out with water, and make sure you check your fire extinguisher, (most aren't designed to put out an oil fire) so be prepared if its not designed to put out oil fires: keep the door open in your kitchen if you have a door, be ready to set the pan on concrete away form anything else as well as away from your house. again, do not pour water on it, immediately turn off the flame if it caches fire, and find a place where the heat will dissipate as fast as possible. try the flame on medium low heat, your donut will probably take a little longer to cook than in a deep fryer, but since you dint have one...
and then several minutes later, flip the donut. make sure when your taking it out of the pan to sit and cool that your putting it on a paper towel, that way all the oil will have a place to go, instead of just sit in your donuts.
they probably wont taste exactly the same, but this is the price you pay for not having a deep fryer. if theres a walmart supercenter in your area, and they havent hiked the prices up, a donut should still be like, 47 cents with tax. here in ohio, since its considred a grocery, there is no tax. seems alot easyer to spend 47 cents than risking catching your kitchen on fire.

Thats simple.......we never cook them in a deep fryer. Just fill a 2 quart pot halfway up with your favorite oil (canola, veggie oil, etc.) Get a can of biscuits and cut a hole in the middle of each one (we use a 2 liter coke bottle top because it makes a perfect size hole) and drop them one at a time into the hot oil. Cook for about 2-3 minutes and sprinkle powdered sugar, cinnamon, etc. on them. Make sure you put your sugar on as soon as they come out of the oil so that it will stick to them. It makes delicious doughnuts...trust me.

Do you have an electric, cast iron or regular skillet? How about a big pot or dutch oven? Any of the cooking instruments I just named would do in lieu of a deep fryer, just add oil

If you have a deep cast iron skillet or something similar you can "fry" them in oil in that. Just one side at a time them flip them over. Only do 2-3 at a time, depending on the size of the pan.Or try donut holes or balls. Might be easier in that size pan anyway.
Also they now have baking pans out there for baking donuts instead of frying them. Good luck. Sounds good!

Use a deep skillet and add cooking oil (vegetable or canola oil) and heat it until the oil starts to pop, add doughnuts - you will have to (very carefully) turn them over so they get browned evenly. Eat one for me!! It is after 11 pm right now, and I feel like going to Tim Horton's to get me a yummy doughnut!!

In a deep stock pot, heat the oil first, but keep a CLOSE eye on it ! Same idea as a deep fryer.

Doughnuts float on the hot oil, so you could probably fry them in a frying pan with about 1 inch of oil.
