Question about Import DVDs?

I bought some DVDs on ebay from a reputable seller. What I bought was (American) TV show DVDs.

I was wondering what the difference was between an American DVD and an American DVD coming from the UK or China, aside from some foriegn text on the cases.

It should also say what region the DVD is . Region 1 is for US. anything else is just not US
