The Bible, People should stop saying "Oh my G-D"! It is very offensive. If you respect people around you that know the Lord, please be respectful even if you don't believe in Him. In the work environment, this can be considered a form of harrasment.

Several of my fellow participants in this quesiton have points. God is a Title, Although I believe there is only one true God. But the comical thing is the devil is allways trying to attack the One true God, hence using the Lords name in Vain or using His Name in a cuss word. You never hear anyone saying Dam Shiva or Buddah, or Krishna or saying anything bad about Islam. He is always attacking Christians. Do you see a pattern. satan, in his folly is pointing to the true God.
Just a thought.

In the Book of Genesis 4:26 it states ".......then began men to call upon the name of the Lord."
The original meaning of the words "to call upon" is "calal" which means to profane God.
People have been using God's name disrespectfully for a very long time.
I wonder why unbelievers seem to say this also who claim they don't believe!?!?

See i get your point but when people take such offense to little things it will just bug people around you. ask people not to say Gods name in vain but let stuff like that slide people are just trying to express theme selves and they are not constantly thinking if you are going to get mad or not.

I just don't get people who are so sensitive it is a word, one that many people do not even really put any significance on so let it go.

And see this is my problem with religion if god is some virtuous great Creator then wouldn't he want to expand our options and help us grow not limit us like so many religious doctrines do.

Jesus H. Christ, why do people keep asking this god-damned question about using the lord's name in vain???

As for the harrassment claim, good luck. Evangelical christians are taking over this country but it hasn't reached that point yet. Thank freakin' god for the ACLU.

It's a habit everyone grows up hearing, then saying. I don't see why "oh my god" would be considered offensive, and I'm not even christian. It's just an exclamation of surprise.

The Bible also says you should not touch the skin of a pig. Ever toss a football around?

Which god? Can we say "Oh Shiva" or "Oh Xenu" ?

and what ever happened to freedom of speech and freedom of religion? The bill of rights does NOT give you the freedom not to be offended...

Maybe you should put down the bible and read the constitution.

I don't.

BTW, gosh and jeez are in that neighborhood too.

Oh, and for the earlier writer, we commonly use a different transliteration of the four consonents that represent the name of God in the Judeo/Christian Bible: The German Jehovah is commonly Yaweh.

you're right, it's not exactly setting the example of better behavior. and I imagine a lot of Christians are offended by it. I've gotten into such a habit of saying it, though, even though I try to stop it's hard it pops out all the time.
so please be patient with me, I'm working on that....
