Maybe you should try driving with a drivers trainer for a little while until you get over you nervousness. You do need to have a job at your age. You would feel better about yourself and you would not have all that time to be bored. People choose to be happy or unhappy people. Go out there and become the person you want to be.

Hey Alex. It sounds like you are kinda depressed. Don't do anything weird ok? Life is too short to worry. It sounds stupid, but try to get/be happy. I just moved to the States, and don't have a job yet either, and no driver's license(USA), have a Dutch one. Sometimes I get sad, but I know once I have my license and a job, I'll be happier. You can start with this: Do you have a friend/brother/sister who you can go work out with? If not put an ad on craigslist.com, and ask for someone that would love to have a workout partner, you can drive with him/her until you have your license. Working out will change your way of thinking big time, trust me. It will motivate you to do stuff BIG TIME :)
I'm from Holland(The Netherlands), the national color of Holland is Orange. They have done a study, and recently they came with this: If you feel depressed/ not happy etc, try to get some stuff for your bedroom that have the color orange. For girls it's easier, things like candles etc. Get an orange mug to drink out, orange shirt etc....Subconsiously the color orange makes peoples minds happier :)
What else? Are you done with collage etc? I think you are afraid of the real world, like getting a job etc. What if you look for something for just partime, even a few hours a day/week? It's a start right? I told you earlier about carigslist.com. That's an awesome website, with tons of stuff! You can get free stuff there, buy pets, sell stuff, get jobs, EVERYTHING. Check it out, it will keep you busy, really :)
Do you have any hobbies? Think deep, I'm sure there are things you can come up with. You know what helps me when I get sad, WALKING. I know here in L.A. people look weird at you if you walk, in Europe we walk a lot, it helps you mentally. When you walk, you also relax, and it helps you sort out things in your mind.
Alex, get your driver's license. Once you have that, you will be soooo proud of yourself. The worl will open for you. I have had my license for years now, the first few years I NEVER drove, I was so afraid of parking the car. I still hate parking it, but try anyways. People laugh at me when I park the car. For exemple when I go to the mall, I drive around as long as it takes to find a spot without anyone next to me, they laugh? SO what ;) at least I got myself where I wanted to go right?
Something else: I bet you love laying in bed for hours. That's a sign of depression. It's har, but get out of the bed, and do something, clean your room, take your mom for a nice breakfast outside, read a book, cook..anything. :)
OK, a long (maybe boring) story, but I hope it helped you a little. I wish you all the luck in the world. Give it some time, things will change for the better.
Ciao! :)

Some of the things you mention -- not enjoying ordinary life much at all, having some nervousness -- make me think you should check out the book "Feeling Good" by Dr David Burns and Dr. Aaron Beck. It's about mood-related conditions like anxiety and depression.
The "cognitive therapy" it describes is proven to work for lots of people, and it involves recognizing how our thinking habits can make life look worse than it really is -- which gives us feelings of anxiety, sadness, etc. It's a good place to start making some improvements in mental health.

dude!
you need to talk to me i think we are living in two different dimesons.
I am 17 and got the same problem.
This is what i do every day.
Wake up about 1:pm
I do this school stuff that i have to do to get my diploma cuz i am dumb like that. when i am done there i work out for an hour i eat my dinner play a couple internet games and maybe work on a book.
I just lost my damn job and have nothing to do.
Expect better my self
I figure i am not like the rest of the world seeing that instead of living and going out partying i am more like a monk. It s like putting aside all of your entertainment and realy living and seeing what life is about. what i try to do is force my self to stay up all night and watch the sun come up i have done this every day for three days. You become very enlighted when doing this. It s like the day never ends. What else is there to do when there nothing else do at all to. Stay up all night!!!

You may want to go talk to your doctor. It sounds like you might have a bit of a social phobia. I did at your age. I was out and about but afraid of many things to move forward. I know Paxil is a good medicine to help .........or possibly you have a mild depression.......I would really talk to a doctor or therapist. And seeing a therapist does not mean you are wacky. In fact it is quite trendy to talk to a professional about your problems. Although I don't like the word trendy......let me say it is very HEALTHY........It did help me
give it a try.
good luck to you guy !

It sounds like you have already decided part of what you need to do. So maybe you could calm yourself enough to get that license and then that would get ya out of the house. Get out there and find you a job that would be fitting and don't look back. You just sound like you need to get out and I think once you do, you will wonder what you were worried about.

you say that those two things will make you happier, try to get them. even if you're scared of not getting it, coz it's important for you not to stand still. you might also want to get started in a youth group, meet new people, i think you don't get friends not because people don't wanna be friends with you, but mainly cause you want something exciting to happen to you, that you can't see potential friends just in front of you. im just like you,and i know it is just hard to make the situation better, no matter what anyone can tell you to make you feel better, mainly that it causes you lo lose confidence in yourself. so yea, go around, do things you like, without thinking of how long and boring your days might be, things will get better, just hope so.
im thinking "whose telling you that" im just like that, 16, no learning licence, no bf, no friends... and desperately trying to make it to level 2 ; )

Enjoy it, and think of it as not having to deal with other's BS for now, because soon enough you'll have plenty of "friends" and will be listening to the whining and complaining. Not that it will be a bad thing because some friends will be worth it. You're young, things will change! Good luck!
