I have a lot of questions and want to be prepared going to a recruiter. What is the best type of officer for an older candidate to be? Infantry/aviation/ Etc... I was also toldthat I should join as an enlisted man and get training in my area of interest...get my $20,000 bonus? and then go to OCS from there. I am educated and could learn Arabic or computer skills or journalistic skills.

The army has just raised the enlistment age for active duty to 42. I would suggest going to www.goarmyreserve.com for more info about it. Don't be afraid to ask your recruiter questions, but remember this.....RECRUITERS LIE! Make sure you get everything in writing, because they will lie to you. Some recruiters tell 18 year olds that if they don't like basic training they can come home.

I don't think you can join the reserves at 41. I believe there is an age cut off.

The army has upped it's recruitment maximum age to 42, as long as you ship to basic training before your 42nd birthday, you can enlist.

That's all admirable, but first check in on the fact that you're 41. I think the cutoff is 27.
