Yes! We have one at my families log cabin.
We use it sometimes to make stew or brownies and such in the fireplace. It must be 100 years old if it's a day.

We don't use charcoal though. We put slender pieces of wood in it after it has turned to a nice glow from the fire.

For those of you out there who are laughing and saying, "WHAT???" Wouldn't a basket catch on fire?

They are made of iron. They are used to put heat up the sides of a dutch oven, so that all the heat is not just at the bottom.
THAT would cause the food to burn on the bottom without it.

If you can't find one, just position the coals or embers up around the sides of the dutch oven. They'll stay in place.

I do that too, all the time. Turns out perfect!

Try Ebay. Try searching on the web. You could probably find one but they really aren't that necessary.
