God spoke and it was.
Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. KJV
Hebrews 11:3 Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God's command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen. CEV

well in the universe there is an infinite amount of what is called black matter. science has recently found it because it is slightly radioactive. There are 2 forms of matter in the universe. 1.)Things to act and 2) things to be acted upon. God was able to command the black matter to rearrange itself into normal matter. (the elemental table for instance)
also the word created comes from greek i believe for ORGANIZED. not boom here you go but God telling the matter how to be manipulated into the earth and everything else.
I am speaking from a mormon POV who believes the universe has always been and always will be. so look into it. its pretty cool stuff.

you see, these dust particles were floating around in space. these particles were pulled together by a natural gravitational force, and they continued to do so until the formed everything in the universe. that would explain why there is nothing (no air, just a void) in between planets and suns. every particle in the universe has become something, except for those nebula things, which will eventually become planets.
