I was asked to have the youth group meetings at my house. Is it impolite that I ask the kids to not wear shoes inside during the meetings and for their parents when they come to pick them up. How do I do this?

I go to a youth group to my friends house, they have a new and expensive floor, so everyone in the family took their shoes off at the main entrance, so there is a bunch of shoes there, when people comes in, they see the shoes and ask, 'Do I have to take my shoes off? so my friend says 'yes' we just got a new floor...so new people take their shoes off with no problem....

I know you are not going to like this, but felt led to tell you.

If your priority is a clean floor over GODs work, than by all means let them know that your floors are more important than youth group. It is ok, someone else will pick up your slack and youth group will go on.

Read the story of Martha and Mary, the one where Martha is upset enough to complain to Jesus that mary is not helping her in the house like a good woman, Martha is upset because Mary is out in the living room with Jesus, listening and learning.

If you know the rest of the story, I think you will get GODs message here.

I hate people who are such clean freaks that they make you take off your shoes. Get over it, the filth of the world is not going to defile your home if people wear shoes.

Asking people to take off their shoes is the most selfish, insensitive behavior I can imagine right now as I answer this question.

There are doctors who can help you with your OCD. Grab a Kleenex to hold the phone with and give one of them a call.

I have another idea, never let anyone in your house. Period. Instead of looking (and acting) like a douchebag by making them take off their shoes, just tell them that they can't come in.

BTW, if someone came to your house barefoot, or just in socks, would you let them in? Would you make them wear your house slippers? Hey, there's an idea; have a box of those paper booties like they wear in surgery at the door for them to slip on. That way they wouldn't have to take off their shoes and you wouldn't have an aneurysm.

It is not rude at all. A lot of people myself included do not want people wearing shoes outside of their entry way.
Just as people come in kindly remind them to take their shoes off at the door.
Do not be mean about it but do not let them walk all over your house in shoes either.

In fact a lot of people I know ask before they even continue wearing shoes in someone elses house if they can or if that person would like them taken off.
I do not think there is anything rude about it at all. Just be honest!

Since it it your house, most people will understand that you can make whatever rules that you see fit. Just meet them at the door, smile, and say, "Would you please take off your shoes before you come in?". People usually comply without asking any questions. If some child asks why, just say that you make everyone do it in order to spare the rug (or whatever reason). Most people will comply if given an explaination.

You could put some shoes outside the front door, just to get the idea in their heads. Then when you answer the door, you could say "Would you like to leave your shoes here, or bring them inside?"

Just tell them you are phobic about your floors being dirty, and would they mind? Or perhaps jokingly tell them it's Chinese night, everybody drop your shoes off at the door? lol

Just tell them hon, it's no big deal, they'll understand, and most will be happy to cooperate.
