I took Lexapro for years. If it wasn't for a problem with headaches. I would still take it. I LOVED it. Worked very good for anxiety and depression. ONly side effect was that it made me tired and then eventually I started getting headaches. IT took three months for it to work on me, so dont' give up yet. I couldn't take Paxil, made me feel nauseous.

I switched from Paxil to Lexapro, and had better results. I didn't have social anxiety though. The Paxil didn't last long enough and gave me night sweats. I was able to notice a difference right when I began taking it, and have been using it for about two years.

My husband recently started on Lexapro. So far, he has noticed no side effects and it seems to be working great. It probably took no more than 1 week to take effect.

My guess is that the medications are different for every individual, they affect each person differently...Personally i have taken both Lexapro and Effexor for mood stabalizers with Schizophrenia and i have remained relatively Happy - hardly any mood swings or anything like that. They both did very well to relax and decrease my anxieties as well as keep me at Home base. Hope that helps. :)
Just find what works for you. May it be medications or Water Aerobics. :) :) :) Wish you the best.
