I recently adopted a two year old male full blood pomeranian, cream color. He is the first pom I have ever had and he is very sweet and loving, gets along very well with my little mixed breed female, who has been spayed. Neither one of them bark, he does when I come home, just a couple of quick barks and that is it. The only problem is, I can walk him for long periods each time out, then when I have to leave the house, he potties on the floor. If only I could catch him in the act I think I would be apt to break him from it but so far, I've not had that luck. Are there any suggestions from everyone else?

Pomeranians are sweet dogs. I have owned both purebred from the breeders and from the shelter. I even found a purebred at a yard sale, wow , what a deal, papers and all.
Poms are great little companions. They need alot of training, and can do well with all ages, and cats too.
The pom I found at a yard sale had been trained to be an elder companion, wasn't barky, and would turn around so he could be picked up. So cute. Great dogs.

I have 2 poms. 1 male and 1 female. I love them!!!! Neither of mine are yappy!! My male barks more than my female but it is a protective thing..only at the door or workmen in the yard, etc. They are great pets, and they have been wonderful with my 5 month old, who has decided he wants to pet the puppy dogs too!!!! If you can find a pom to rescue that would be fabulous. I bought both of mine from breeders. If you decide to go with a breeder you should make sure they are reputable and have a guarantee. If you need anymore advice on breeders let me know!! The other thing you should know when considering a pom is that they require a lot of grooming and time. Mine have to be brushed out at least every other day, preferably everyday. And I take mine to the groomer every 5-6 weeks!!! Good Luck!!!

If everybody would get their dogs at those places. They would be cleared out,but what would the breeders do with their dogs take them to the adoption center? What would happen with dog shows? I think adopting is great. I've even done it myself. Still I just wonder what would happen with the breeders' dogs?

Do you mean someone shouldn't get a pomeranian because they should get a "mutt" instead (no insult intended, mutts of the world!)? I have a free pup that's half chihuahua and half pom. That might be a nice compromise if you're looking to get a pom but want to also save a dog. Go for a mix!
Also, poms do have that rep of being yappy and annoying (as some folks mentioned) but when it comes down to it, it's all about the owner, training, and the individual dog. Just ask The Dog Whisperer--love that show!

I had a pomeranian. He was lost, someone had shaved his hair off in spots and he was tick and flea infested, my cousin found him and when she couldn't find the owner I took him in. He was a sweet dog, very loud barker and was hard to housebreak ( always drizzled inside when he got excited) When I got pregnant he started growling and biting my ankles and I was worried what he might do to my child so I gave him to my husbands aunt. I do think rather than paying big money for a dog (purebred doesn't mean much) people should save a dog, because their are thousands being put down everyday and its sad.

I think pomeranians are SO cute, but i agree with adopting from a local shelter. I have a mutt my inlaws saved from the shelter and she is the sweetest girl ever. I wouldnt trade my shelter mutt for anything!!! PS most "full breed"dogs have health problems because they are inbred.

Pomeranians are simply precious and yes, adopting a dog in need is an excellent idea - and if you check petfinder.com there are lots of beautiful little poms that are looking for homes!

I think they are annoying little dogs but cute. I agree that the pets at your local shelter should be adopted first.
