I must agree with some that are saying wait on getting a dog. Chihuahua's are high maintenance and not just the trendy dogs you see being carried around by celebs. You have to realize that a dog can live for 10+ years. They need not only food, water, socialization, visits to the Vets. etc. Our last visit to the vet was only for a few shots, check-ups and some meds and it ran us over $150. I spend 60 + for trips to the groomers. I spend $35.00 a month to rent a fence.
If you are 13 you need to make sure your parents have any interest in adopting a dog because they will be the care provider for about 90% of everything. You are probably in school about 7 hours a day 5 days a week. This is time that the dog needs to eat, drink and go potty. and if bored could destroy many items. my 6 pound Chihuahua thought she should teeth on my laptop AC connection.
I too have a 13 year old who rolls his eyes at me at the thought of taking the dog for a run or picking up poo from the back yard.
but whatever you decide good luck. And if you do adopt try the shelter/human society or www.petfinders.org (look in the personal adoptions for people in your area trying to find good homes for there family pets.

Hi there. All dogs will get along with everyone if you are ready for that particular type of dog. Remember always, that a dog is an animal first, then a dog, then a breed, then a name. Have you researched the breed? Have you asked yourself why you want this type of breed? If you said to yourself I would love to have a Chi like Paris Hilton's and dress it up and take it with me everywhere, then please stop and do not get one. Ok, here's why. As I said these are dogs, not dolls, not people, not kids. Dogs have natural instincts that must be fulfilled in some way or other. If you put your little dog in a purse for instance and start carrying him around everywhere, then he is not being given the opportunity to do what he does naturally, walk. You must walk your dog for 30 minutes everyday so he gets exercise. The tiniest of dogs to the big breeds, all need to be walked. Not played with or let out in the yard to run, but to actually walk.
The reason I am saying this to you in this manner is, I don't want you to get a dog that later on in time you want to get rid of because he does not "behave". It's like we are a toss away society, no one wants to take responsibility. If you truly feel this is the dog/breed for you, get it to puppy school, get it out there and socialize it. You have got to be it's "pack leader". He will depend on you for leadership. The first time you give up leadership and he see's that, then he will try to take over and then you will have difficulties you never thought of before.
Remember to remain calm/assertive, and your dog should be calm/submissive. Treat him like a dog, not a dress up doll. Good luck.

if you are only 13 what will you do with the dog when you are old enough for College or to move out - very few landlords allow pets - therefore unless your parents want a dog DO NOT get one...
properly socialized Chihuahua's will get along with other dogs (this means not treating it like a baby - taking it to Obedience lessons)

it depends on the dog. some dogs dont like other dogs or kids, but some dogs are perfectly fine. if you're getting it from a shelter you can ask the people there and they might be able to help you out.

Chihuahua's are usually okay with older children (around your age) and they are usually pretty good with their own families, but they seem to get snappy around people that aren't a part of their family.
