Actually your observation is more apparent than real. Mormons, like many other groups, are delaying marriage longer than ever before. Short engagements and quick marriages are uncommon.
Concerning divorce rates, "Mormons marrying within their church are least likely of all Americans to become divorced." The divorce rate for Latter-day Saints who marry in the temple are 5.4 percent for men and 6.5 percent for women.
The speculation that Mormon's don't divorce because of peer pressure, but secretly have unhappy marriages is just that - speculation of envious Mormon-haters. There is no evidence that Mormon marriages have more problems than other marriages.

My Mormon parents had a 3 month courtship (aged 19 and 20). They got divorced after 29 years of marriage. It's the sex thing plain and simple. Mormons are just as horny as anyone.
I seriously doubt that the temple-marriage divorce rate is only 3%. I'd like to see a source for that statistic.
from http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1560850604/favoritespanishr/ :
"in 1910 there was one "temple divorce" for every 66 temple marriages performed that year., 1:41 in 1915, 1:34 in 1920, 1:27 in 1925, 1:30 in 1930, 1:23 in 1935, 1:27 in 1939, 1:17 in 1945, 1:31 in 1950, 1:30 in 1955, 1:19 in 1960 and 1965"
So it was >5% back 40 years ago. It's gotta be way higher now!
A lot of Mormons do stay married only because they feel like it would be a sin to get divorced. They just live out their lives in misery.

I'm Mormon, and it is because we believe marriage is important, but also because we are so strict about sex being for marriage only. That includes petting, fondling, any of that. It's all forbidden. I'm getting married next month, and we'll have been together 18 months at that point with only hugging and holding hands. We do kiss - briefly - but actually he was a bit unsure about that, it was only me insisting!
Our ward did a satire on the "fast weddings" thing. You have to be British and watch Countdown to get it, but basically there's a gameshow here where contestants get 30 seconds to solve a puzzle. The music which plays while they're working it out is like a ticking, with a big drum roll at the end. For our Stake Roadshow last year we did a sketch where the guy asks the girl to marry him, she says yes, and then the countdown music starts and lots of people rush on the stage, and just as the music ends there they are in a wedding dress and tux, surrounded by flowers, with well wishers seated round them and a big wedding cake on the table. It was hysterical.
The fastest wedding we've had in our ward is my friend who is getting married on 22nd July - she met her hubby to be just before Christmas.
Actually the divorce rate for Mormons who are married in the Temple (i.e., the actual devout practising ones) is just 3%. Divorce isn't necessarily frowned on, but everyone believes in marriage and works at it. We know how sacred and important it is, and we put a lot of effort into strengthening marriages.

Marriage and family are very important to Mormons. They are just like everyone else with problems but they tend to take them to the Lord for help when they can't work it out for themselves. The married couple have respect for each other and that helps in keeping the marriage intact. They pray for guidance in all things and are lead by the spirit to make wise choices. This would be true for a marriage partner too. I'm a Mormon and dated my husband for 17 months before we were married. We were married for 33 happy years before the good Lord took him.

These Mormon weddings that are FAST...and they really are fast occur at BYU, BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii...they meet in August form different walks of life and by the end of the school year..they are married..it happens ALL THE TIME..and surprisingly..YES..these marriages stick...I'd say over 70% of the time..the mormon church has the lowest divorce rate in the world and not because we consider it a sin....BUT...we also know that if it was a mistake...then it is a decision that while tough may be necessary for you to find happiness...but we really consider the "for better or worse" and we trek it out...and most of the times..our maturity improves and we grow and make our adjustments rather than throwing in the towel...

One of the principles of the Mormon faith, from what I've heard from Mormons, is that it's important to have a large family due to God's command to Adam and Eve to "multiply and repopulate the Earth." Mormons take this pretty seriously, and are probably less likely to get divorced because they take marriage so seriously. It's also about culture - if your friend was raised in a fmaily where her parents got married very young and her friends were doing the same, she might have felt pressure to get married as well. That said, if she found a man who shares the same beliefs as she does and cares about her, I'm sure they have a happy future ahead of them. Good luck to her and to you...

not all mormon weddings occur so quickly. i have been with my fiance for 2 years and we have been engaged for 6 months. everyone is different but yes-mormon weddings that occur quickly do succeed (i know several) and actually mormons have a much lower divorce rate than the general public. this does not mean they don't have problems cuz most people do. but mormons place a very strong emphasis on the importance of the marriage union and thus encourage a strong commitment. if they have a good marriage, you can bet they work hard for it!

certainly, basically positioned on despite you will commonly positioned directly to a marriage--something dressy. there is no longer a gown code. As to what is going to ensue...nicely, it relies upon on the place the marriage will ensue. If the marriage is going on in one among our temples, then you definately're in all threat going to the two a hoop replace or the reception as a replace of the extremely wedding ceremony. in basic terms worth participants of a undeniable age are allowed into the temples, and on a similar time as there's a gown code for that, i do no longer think of that they had have invited you whilst they understand you will basically ought to attend exterior. Ring exchanges selection reckoning on the guy, even though it will enormously lots be basically like it sounds--a hoop replace. The bishop or whoever will say some words, and then they're going to have the ceremony. If this is the reception...nicely, receptions are enormously lots a similar no rely who's throwing them. you basically ought to consume and mingle. there is no longer in all threat something to assume. in the event that they're having the marriage exterior the temple, however, then it will enormously lots be like another weddings. the guy appearing the ceremony would be in a tournament and tie as a replace of a clergyman's robes, and the words spoken must be a sprint different, even though it is not something you certainly need to coach for. Mormons do no longer in all threat have any customs for civil marriages, so basically sit down back and luxuriate in, extremely.

My Opinion,
These folks suppress their sexual desire for so long, When they meet the 1st return missionary it is off to the temple for marriage. So they do not slip and become unworthy to enter. Return Missionaries are pressured to find a wife ASAP after returning. The church has a way of convincing people their way is the right way. And the people of that religion follow mindlessly.

Well, I could see that practitioners of a religion having a rule of "no sex before marriage" would be more likely to get married younger...
