There were a few correct answers in this post. Being in the business for over 15 years, I can tell you that you are most likely allergic to the Sulfites, which are added to almost every wine as a preservative. You do have options though. There are several "organic" wineries that do not add any sulfites to their wines, and there are no traceable amounts of sulfites in the wine. A few of the vineyards are Frey, Organic Wine Works, and Bonterra. Just go into any reputable shop and ask for an organic wine. If they don't know what you are talking about, move on to another store.

It's the sulfites in wine that do cause the headache. Hard liquor doesn't have sulfites in it. Sulfites are used to clean up the wine and get the suspended particles out before bottling. Some of those will cause headaches. As for the champagne, the increased alcohol (i.e. the bubbles) can cause problems for some people too.

You are sensitive to the sulfites that is usually heavier in red wines. I have it too. I usually try to take some Advil a few hours before I have a few glasses of wine and I drink alot of water. There are some wines that offer lower sulfite counts, but I'm not sure which ones.
