I always worry about this with my cat! Here is what I do. I always have a little mouse toy handy to throw across the room. This always distracts her, and gives me time to scoot in and close the door.

My cat loves those little 'mini mice'. She will chase them anywhere so those work good for us.

I hope your cat does not escape!

Get a watergun or a spray bottle give her a little squirt of water EVERYTIME you catch her near the door. She'll eventually learn that hanging out around the door isn't the thing to do. Maybe this will help break her of trying to slip out. You have to be very consistent with giving her a little squirt tho, so that she will get the idea.

Haha my male cat wants to do that all the time. Just open the door slowly and inch for foot in. DO NOT kick them because a lot of people do that and its really mean. If you have some sort of bag just inch that in instead of your foot. Then close the door quickly. Eh, works for me atleast. hope that helps :)

Never spray a cat with water. It just makes them fearfull. I have 5 cats and I always just crack the door and put my hand down low to the floor and gently shoo them back. In time they will stop trying to get out.

They love to be on the other side of closed doors, don't they.

Here's what I do: I open the door just a little bit and block the doorway with my leg and foot, so he can't get out.

I know it's stupid, but it works.

Make sure that your windows and patio/balcony doors and screens ae closed. Since they can't get out of the front door, they will try another route.

I never let my cat out the door so she no longer tries - you can squir them back with a water bottle, or build a "CAT SECTION" with window access so the cat can go out but in a safe area (made with 2x4's and chicken wire)

I know how i stopped mine but it was an accident. Me and my wife were going out and our cat ran at the door. Well i tried to shut it before he ran out but instead i slamed the door on his little head. Since then he has never got near the door when it opens. It was an accident but it worked.
