The bible, in Revelation, says it is a mark of a man(the antichrist).
many speculate on what the number could actualy stand for. Birthdate, number of letters in his name etc..or it could stand for a number he uses in something.(some think barcodes all contain the number somehow!) I don't specualte on it, only God himself knows. When the time comes, you have to ready spiritualy above anything.

I believe that 666 (or 616 in some manuscripts) is supposed to mean the Emperor Nero, the Antichrist. Why?
Ancient Hebrew and Ancient Greek used graphemes (letters or symbols) as both letters and numbers. And when a Jew or Greek wanted to encode a name, they would simply change the letters of the name into its numerical value and add 'em up.
So, what's all this got to do with Nero?
"Nero" in Greek is spelled with the Greek letters "ni","e", "ro", and "omikron". However, when transliterated (changed from Greek letters into Hebrew letters), the name "Nero" adds up to 666.

6 is the imperfect number. 7 is the holy number because there were at the time 4 elements; fire, water, earth, and air, and there were the 3 forms of god; father, son, holy ghost. 4+3=7
since satan wants to be like god but he cant he can only get to 6 and not 7
so 666 is the symbol of the antichrist

I am not sure about the actual number because it may be written different in different languages, but I think that the mark of the beast is going to be that microchip like the one'e they put in dogs to track them when people lose them. Some people have already gotten them. I think they will be used for things like a credit card that you would scan at the store or for entrance into places, or for medical info, personal info. All of that will be stored there. No way will I get one. There is no chance for you then it's too late.

The numbers refer to the fact that Satan shall return again to the earth in the 6th trump, 6th seal, and 6th vial as stated in the Book of Revelation.

it's also code for Roman Emperor Nero, he was one bad mother.. so I can see how he might be compared to the anti Christ.
he used to have Christians dipped in hot wax then burned them like candles to light up his parties.
