iyamacog...you'd stay at a job to keep from seeing your kids? or would they think mom being at home is settling for less?

YES, I gave up a very good job when I had my daughter. Before I had her I could never imagine not working. It was a huge sacrifice for me to be at home, financially, etc. But it was so worth it. When they are young you cannot get those moments back. I am not saying giving up your job, even cut back hours can help. I have two small kids and still need to find a job but I so want to be there after school and have time for them each night instead of just shoving food down their throats then off to bed. I think kids have suffered the most in the new wave of the almighty dollar and who has the most wins, with parents that believe working all day and evening is the most important thing. It isn't.

I know a lot of people HAVE to work a lot to support their children, now being divorced I will be one of those people. I have been so blessed to have gotten to be at home with them to this point though. I had a old car, no new clothes but it was so worth it! Anyone given an opportunity and if you can afford it, by all means be with your children! They grow up too fast and you can have such a positive impact on them!

Mostly females are answering this question and they appear to be all "single" moms. I think men would have a more negative answer. Men identify with their job. A man's job defines a man. I think it is important for children to grow up in a household that is realistic. Everyone makes sacrifices, time is used wisely, no one is self centered, it is vital both a mom and a dad are in the children's life so the child learns how the sexes can work together. Unless your job takes you away from your children 24/7 (like a long distance truck driver) I really think your family will be OK.

Not in this day and age, when life is sooooooooo expensive.
