It depends on the guy. Most guys simply don't give it a second thought. Others do it out of spite or laziness.
I put the cover down, so no matter what, even I have to raise the cover to go. It's rather rude of men, but it's pretty much impossible to change them. (Trust me, I've tried.)

I didn't think anything about leaving the seat up until someone mentioned it just a few years back. she said it was awfully cold water getting up in the middle of the night and sitting down.
My answer was it cold have been a smelly mess had I had gone in there first and didn't look to see if the seat was down first.
It's not that we feel it necessary to leave it up but why is it necessary in the first place. Are women just to lazy to put it down as we have to put it up when they're done. It's not an uncommon practice, just silly reasoning.

I told my boys that I get angry when I sit on a seat sprinkled with urine, so they better raise the seat when they use the toilet. But If they do that I will put it down when I need it. That way everyone does half the work and no one gets to wash pee off of their backsides. Works beautifully.
Frankly, I think it is very selfish of women to insist that men raise and lower the seat just so that they don't have to think about it.

I don't know that guys feel it is "necessary" to leave the seat up, I think we just are finished in the bathroom and don't see the need to arrange the toilet any special way after we are done. When I was raised, the women in my house told me that they had eyes and hands just like me and I didn't need to do anything special for them because they could handle it all on their own.

In terms of etiquette, the proper position of a toilet seat is down and the proper postion of the accompanying cover is down. Also, the proper manner of flushing the toilet is with the cover down.
Nobody does this. Men put the cover and seat up to avoid spilling urine on the seat. They leave it that way because likely the next time they use it, it is for urination. Women leave the seat down because they always use it with the seat down. So when a man uses the toilet, women have to put it down. When women use the toilet, men have to put it up.

We just don't think about putting the seat down. Men feel that whether u put the seat up or leave it down never crosses our minds because we don't dwell on minor things like that.

Hey we just thought of a new product to market. When you flush the toilet the seat cover, toilet seat or both slowly swing down shut.
Now if we can teach them to flush??

hi ashley- the toilet seat has to remain down, no exceptions, cuz as a guy i was trained to sit down to pee (like a girl) (by a girl) and the rest of you guys need to try it. It is clinically proven that sitting down to pee is physically relaxing to both female and male. Try it guys. when you sit- say "i am a girl" if you have to. your woman will smile and thank you, and you will do it this way forever. trust me on this one.
