We have less than a week--we enjoy outdoor activities, hiking, nature but if it's going to be really hot (August) we might enjoy taking some guided tours?

As far as I know, the only island w/an active volcano is the Big Island of Hawaii. Make reservations now for a helicopter ride so you can see the best lava flow. Have fun!

The big island is the best and maybe the only place to see volcanoes. All the other islands don't really have any volcanoes to see. Oahu is the most populated island of all the islands. Kauai and Maui are 2 nice islands to visit too for the nature and beaches. There are not that many people there on those 2 islands, the Big Island and the other islands except for Oahu.

Most likely the Big Island to see an active volcano. But you will have to walk quite a ways to see it!!

Fly into Kona - Big Island - and you can go to the active volcano. You can also visit Volcano National Park - black sand beaches - amazing!
