How can you stop them and go out in public? Music is everywhere you go in your car, if you roll the windows down other peoples cars. Public places, television, movies you name it it is everywhere. Grocery stores, malls the whole Gambit. Just try to keep it in moderation. Give them a chance to develop there own opinion over time. Don't shelter them from it but don't ban them from it either.

I dont think there's anything wrong with it. Just make it the edited version, bc small kids pick up bad words very easily. Like the others have said hip hop has good beats and children will automatically start moving to that type of sound. I have two kids 4 and 2 and they love that music.

My son was listening Old Skool Tribe, De La, Digable Planets when he was that age. There's LOTS of cussing on Tribes albums and my son asks me if he's allowed to say things like 'J' 'E' 'R' 'K'. He's 11 years old and very well behaved. I don't think there's anything wrong with the music as long as it's positive or tells a story that they can learn from. I don't think that anything degrading to anyone is good for them, though. Any music (hip hop, rock, etc) that is like that I would steer clear from.

I think that the main ideology that children follow is the one set by the parents. If you teach your child to behave a certain way, or don't teach them to not behave a certain way, then that is how they will behave.

Yes. My boys are 5 and 2 and will dance to everything. My 2 year old seems to prefer dance and hip hop. As long as the lyrics aren't swearing at me!

Why not? Any music is great for kids, perhaps with the exception of hard metal or curse-a-minute rap stuff.

I love 80's stuff! Our 3 year old knows all the words to Karma Chameleon. Our non-chatting 1 year old bops his head to the beat.

I think as long as it is an edited version. Kids at that age love to dance...and hip hop is great for dancing to,

My three and two year old LOVE music. My three year old likes rap/hip-hop but it's always the edited version of the songs that he listens to. LOL He even goes around singing some of it (Shake that laffy taffy!)! On the other hand, my two year old LOVES all music on many levels. He can "shake his booty" to one song and head bang to the next. They also listen to classical, oldies, latin, polka, kids music... everything. You should expose your children to many types of music.

i love this question.
I'm going to tell you what i think, and this is coming from someone of a wide range of musical background.
When i was three, i was listening to Slayer. When i was five or six, i was jamming biggie and tupac, chino XL, and a bunch of other gangster rap artist. The thing is, when you expose a child to any type of music, and they dig it, you should let them enjoy it. But NEVER forget to tell them that it's strictly ENTERTAINMENT. Let them hear and feel the words, the riffs, the wails, the sounds, but if it's a negative mesage, dont let them believe it.

Sure. Expose the child to ALL music. You should know that some research suggests that listening to Classical music is advantageous to the child.
