Not all wet dogs smell bad. Dogs that are fed bad quality food and who aren't properly cared for will smell bad (that "dog" smell) wet or dry. Just last night I was swimming with a dog and when we came out of the lake I couldn't stop smelling her because she smelled sweet like shampoo. Personally I would rather smell a wet dog than a wet person cause people stink when they are wet.

Wet dogs don't smell bad, they smell like wet dogs! I asked my Border Collie about this and she said that she feels that sweaty humans are at any time stinkier than even cats or sheep.
But because she loves us humans, she considers it a good stink, Kind of reminds her of being a pup on the farm,Smell of sheep, cows, humans! Good memories!
My German Shepherd, after blowing a large fart and chasing her tail for ten minutes, when asked the same question said" HUH?" Save the human, Save the human, check the locks, where's the baby? What was the question? Right from the Dogs mouth!

Well, it's because back in the before the 1400's, dogs were more of a wild animal. So, one of their defenses was they would get themselves wet, and then have a repellent smell to ward off enemies. Then, as dogs have evolved and become more domesticated, the smell is still there, but less intense.

Being wet dose not effect their nose they still smell as good as they do when they are dry, unless they have a plugged up nose.
I have 3 dogs and they all smell just fine all tho they do develop an oder when wet, that is just how living things are.

People of different races say other people smell and they do detect Oder's we just have different smells and we can not detect our own quite so easily as we do other people.

The answer is simple. When you smell somthing, you actually are breathing little pieces of the molecules. The water molecules actually trap the odor of the fur. When you them smell the water molecule, your brain pics up the concentrated odor. Simply put .. water condenses the smell!

The water naturally mixes with the dead skin and hair cells to make a foul smell, when their dry, the smell is not there due to the moisture not being there.

Dogs don't like getting bathed. It stresses them out, and when dogs stress the emit an odor. So it's not that they are wet so much as they are stressed.

usually that's when it's time for a bath :):)
If a dog is kept clean they don't usually smell bad when wet.Dogs that have regular grooming's never really have an odor, unless they have skin problems or other health problems.
