What are your expectations while there? Do you want to party and have lots of nightlife? Then Waikiki for sure! If you want to relax and just chill then No Shore...
Waikiki is about 40 minutes from No. Shore so everything is accessible..and after talking to my family in California gas here in Oahu is cheaper..
The biggest mistake people make coming here is not sitting down and figuring out what their expectation is...so they book and Waikiki and call it a zoo, when they probably should have booked out of the city OR they want to party like an animal and stay in the No. Shore!! they are completely opposite!!

Well, all the hotels and tourists are in Waikiki. All the other places don't have any hotels... More of the locals living there in the other places. A lot of nature and beaches you can see in the other places like North Shore, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Sandy Beach, and so forth. Kaneohe is also a nice town to visit..

Kahala Resort - Lagoon View rooms - it's in the residential section, so not on Waikiki Beach, but close enough to get there - just not as congested. And with the Lagoon View Rooms, you can see the resorts dolphins playing right from your balcony - it's amazing and I would highly recommend it. Oh - and if that's not enough - it's right on the beach, as well!

Waikiki area is great!! Transportation, places to see, things to do!! Take a stroll on Waikiki, a horse and carriage ride!! Or just hang loose and people watch!

Try Kaneahoe or Kailua, There both nice but not too crowded.
