That's great. I'm still an atheist.

The reason why has nothing to do with whether Jesus or God exists or not, but the fact that I cannot prove that they do through reason or understanding. Too much probability exists to substantiate any answer for the afterlife: perhaps Christianity is the one right pursuit, perhaps Judaism, perhaps it's only Methodists who live in Marcellus, MI and attend a certain church there. Perhaps it's all Evangelical faiths all at once, or all Islamic faiths and sects and no one else.

Perhaps it's as in "What Dreams May Come" and heaven is there for the just and good and hell exists for the tortured and sinful, regardless of religion.

Perhaps it's a lightswitch as defeatist atheists perceive: as soon as you die, it's done. Perhaps it's like a bad ending of a Tales from the Crypt episode, and you experience everything: pain, hurt, emotion, but cannot express it until the last neurological energy leaves your nervous system.

Perhaps we all go to another plane of existance no religion covered, where the means and ways of life are completely different. Perhaps we fight invisibly among the stars for all eternity as pure energy waiting to find a new planet to fortify with life once we gain enough mass to do so.

Perhaps all souls reappear in a vat in a small Factory in Hoboken, N.J. to become the worlds best peanut butter. Perhaps we reincarnate (there are people who hold both of these possibilities to be equally vulgar.)

The only way I will find out is a one-way trip. And it's a trip I'm not afraid to take when it's time to. And I call myself atheist for one reason: I'm a secular humanist, but a preacher informed me that anyone who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ is an atheist, so I just say that to avoid confusion. (Yes, I am laughing about this.)

After much search and research, I cannot find any religion which tells a completely true story. I also explored the psychological reasons for accepting religion in a society where information is available at your fingertips. I understand that in earlier years, before universal education, libraries and the Internet were available to the average person, if a societal leader said something is so, it was easy to believe him. Now, when it is so easy to be educated on any topic, the reason people choose religion has to be psychological as opposed to logical,

1. The need to conform to the group.
2. The infantile need for fantasy
3. Laziness in not wanting to spend the effort to explore
4. Fear of being ostracized by the controlling group

No reason to adopt a faith-based philosophy on my part.

Yet, I enjoy being the best person I an be, using the legend of Jesus as a guideline.

And I enjoy the Muslim dictate of doing good deeds.

A better question is, "why are you Christian?".

The natural position is to be atheist or agnostic, without any preconceived notions. It is very artificial and culturally imposed to believe in Christianity.

It just doesn't make sense and almost everything that we know from science and history tells us that there is no god, at least in terms of the god of the Bible.

There is a spiritual energy that ties us all together but it is just plain silly and superstitious to believe in God and the mythology of Jesus. People have been saying that Jesus was coming back ever since they day he died. I've certainly heard it all my life.

You sound young. Please don't waste your time and effort on this delusion.

Hi, why am atheist? well a simple answer to that is that religions are illogical, they don't pass the most simple logic analysis, read what you have wrote: "Jesus is coming back very soon", how do you know? and what happens if Jesus come back? would your life would change? what he could do for us? some miracles? ... Have you ever questioned yourself if religions are true or false? or you simply accepted what others wanted you to believe? If you have a mind use it to think don't be another brick on The Wall

Well, if you're focusing on Jesus coming back would a better question be why aren't you Christian? To which I answer: I just don't believe in the majority of the Christian faith. Including the return of Jesus. No offense meant.

Jesus never said he was coming back in the 1st century...But...he has already come back...as you, as me...His spirit dwells within...

No way I could be an atheist because I KNOW God is real...Nope, not an atheist..

Also, Jesus said nobody knows the day or the hour...Only his Father in heaven knows...

Jesus claimed he was coming back in the 1st century. Either he already came back or the bible is a lie.

Atheism is the only logical choice.

To doc, above me . Just because we are christian does not mean we are all the things you say. I did not vote for Bush,I am on minimum wage and I hate wal-mart. Get your facts strait. You saying that would be like me saying all non-Christians are as rude as you. You may now descend from your soapbox.
