So what ever happen to them, did they get a light punishment because they were a religious figure? I thought we had separation of church and state? They might have been seen as holy men by their religion but not by others, did they recieve the same punishment a regular person would have in the same situation? If they didn't, isn't that injust, a child molestor is a child molestor no matter what and should be punished accordingly and equally as to those in the same category right?

Most got a slap on the hand and early retirement. Some went to jail but not very many. I also heard that the popes right hand man was a molester too. And the pope protected him. I just find it hard to believe that it was hidden for so long To the comment about more teachers did it. It does not matter who did it more the point is THEY DID IT!!! It cannot be down played no matter what. It was priest SHAME ON THEM. AND FOR PROTECTING THEM. HOW CAN SOME ONE FOLLOW CHURCH LEADERS WHO DO THAT?

Most in the US were and have been prosecuted. Their respective parishes are being sued for the most part.

If you want a really sick example of "m olestors" being "juggled" just look at our public schools. More teachers molest kids in a year than ALL the reports of priests combined since the 1900's.

When the evidence is there, and the victim is willing to testify, and the statute of limitations has not run out, they get prosecuted, and jailed just like anyone else.

A study panel determined that about 82% of the victims were boys, and our culture does not regard that as serious as the abuse of girls.

They paid the parents off and the priests were relocated to a
different church. I know of one case were the priest did go to jail
and the prisoners had beaten him to death before he had been
there for 24 hours.

I do not think you will find that members of their religion think of them as holy men. Not after this. After all, it is their children who were the victims.
