The penny gets flattened.
However DO NOT do it.
1, its illegal per Federal law to trespass which you must do in order to put it there.
2, its dangerous. One because you are going up to the track to put them there.
3, its also dangerous, because (ask any employee) the coin can fly from under the wheel if its hit the right way with the velocity of a bullet (over 1000 fps).
Take my word for it.

Thats and easy question. It will get smashed. My friend use to live with the train track right behind her house and her dad let the train smash two pennies for her and I. it was cool because the face is all smeared like its fading away. i still have it!

It gets flat, very flat.
Nowadays, people can pay 50 cents to do the same thing with a hand crank machine at many tourist destinations, but I prefer the original method, plus I save the two quarters!
