My son left last year on December 13th. Almost all of boot camp is done in doors. You get a ton of clothing including knit hats and scarves and gloves. Being from NY, and a hockey player, and that last winter was a mild winter, he could not believe that when out doors they had to wear knit hats, you know the ones with the eye holes and scarves on their faces and gloves all of the time outdoors.

He said he was not sure if he enlisted in the Navy or ta errorist camp. But his buddy from Hawaii shived non-stop when it was 50 out, so he understood.

Good Luck and Thanks.

BTW: He said Boot camp was easy. Just be fit and shut up. He said he thought he was in good shape until he got to Texas for his MA school, then he thought he was in good shape till he started his next school, with the marines, where he started the day with a 5 mile run, then did PT.

Again Thanks Seaman recruit.

BTW: Tell Mom and Dad not to worry, your phone calls will be far and few between and you will seem quiet and different. Them tell you will be fine. And this is from a Navy Mom and yes, the Navy is the best decision my son could have made for himself.

Well, the only difference from any other time of the year is you'll have snow watch. The people on snow watch have to, surprise surprise, shovel the snow. Boot camp isn't that bad, in fact I loved it! Just try to find the good in it, you make life-long friends, get in shape, learn A LOT, and get to become a proud member of the United States Navy.

It's both. You running like crazy outdoors and swim like crazy indoors. Just because it's snowing doesn't mean you get special treatment. Of course if a huge snow storm is passing through, then yes they will let you do your drills inside.

Do you think that most Navy wartime manuevers are indoors in the winter? They have special gear for cold weather and cold water operations, and you're gonna freeze your aass off!

You won't get far unless you learn to spell NAVY - so you might be on guard duty in December!
