revers ozmosis water filters, not cheap but effective, or purifying tablets... nasty tasting but they work for paracites and pathogens.
normal filters like britta pitchers will not remove pathogens.

You can buy everything from cheap water filters that look like straws....You're probable better off spending a few bucks and buying something like a Katadyn water filter...They are about the same size as a regular flashlight, and can filter large amounts of water...$84.95 on Bass Pro.com...I would still be very careful drinking water out of most rivers, the filters will filter micro-organisms but not chemicals...

yup, its called a distiller. I had some water from some once at a guys house and it was the best I have tasted. I think he said he paid $700 cad for it, it was stainless steel
