I have worked for AAFES and they said that you can purchase Beer & Wine at 18 on almost all bases outside CONUS. Why is this? Isnt it insulting that you have less freedom back home then when abroad on even a military installation? Also on bases in the U.S. is it easy to get alcohol underage if your a service member being that there are always service member parties?

I noticed some people think I mean the middle east, I do not mean the middle east, noticed I said most bases outside of CONUS. Why would we be shot for drinking at 18 on a base in the U.S. but not on a base in Europe or Asia? this logic puzzles me.

This is not a gripe as one person put it, I would prefer the drinking age to be back to the original 18 everywhere, I feel its stupid that you cant drink at 18 on most bases in the U.S. but can in Europe and Asia.

The status of forces agreement between the USA and the country or state the base is located in may have limitations or specific regulations on age limit for anything to include drinking, driving regulations, jurisdiction for civil and some military offenses. The Base will usually take the local civil law and age limits for drinking and age limits, but not always.

Because at overseas, people act dumb when they are drunk, and other countries don't care if you get in trouble. It's more money for them when you try to get out of jail. It is also more likely that you're not going to be driving a vehicle. Kids overseas start young trying to make a living. At 18 years old you're not responsible enough. At least when you reach your 21 years of age, you already started learning more responsibility.

Soldiers are in the military by choice, they know the responsiblity. Stop blaming Bush when you're ignorant about the subject. You don't want to go to war, don't be in the military. Leave the people that are willing to sacrifice their lifes so you can have your freedom of speech.

i live over seas, since most countries dont have the same age requirements as the states because they allow children some 12 others 16 yrs of age to drink the military allowed 18 as the minimum for the service member(s) the privilege to participate.the military will always go for the strictest rules to avoid any mishaps due to negligent personnel in the past.

I cant answer it .Except because they can!
However I do believe that if our government can grant a child at 16 life in prison for a crime and tried as an adult, or if if a teenager can divorce his or her parents to become a legal adult, and a 14 yr old child is considered old enough in a courts eyes to decide whats best best for him or her ......Then Damn it our soldiers should be able to have a freakin drink if they are gonna serve and lay their lives on the line. And we all know that's only the tip of the ice burg.... Prostitution is legal in Europe .so we know where you want to be stationed. You can smoke Pot in Jamaica or Columbia right on the street and some other countries chew cocaine like we drink coffee. If we are gonna have laws they need to be fair , and free.
Not take away from your freedom or penalize you because you made a freedom of choice to do something. And penalized by the law. To me that is regulating our freedom witch is no better then living as a Communist.
Please Do'nt get me wrong I do not drink, nor do I do drugs but , laws are being made to modify your life.Thier are exseptions but you need to be in good with someone who can pull some strings. **** Did Bush get charged for treason and murder of the lives of the soldiers who are now dead no because thier are exceptions, Did Clinton get charged with solicitation for prostitution hell no but he got his dick sucked.
My own opinion.

Most people who work on base are civilians. They id every one who buys any thing on base. So that is a bunch of b/s. If you are not 21 and go over seas. You are not allowed to drink. Even if the country ports you are in serves younger. You have to follow are rules.

21 is not necessarily the case in all states. The miltary establisment will usually honor the drinking laws in the state that is host to a military base. The armed forces in general, is usually sensitive to state law. This keeps the military in good relations with the civilian government..

Because the drinking age in OCONUS locations is at or below 18. You have to remember that every regulation exists for a reason. You used to be able to drink on US bases at the age of 18, but they someone screwed it up.
