In 1974 the cost of a barrel of oil was a steep 12$US.

In 1973, it ranged from 45 to 50 cents a gallon, average cost was .48 cents. Some places had gas wars going on and you could get it for 19 to 29 cents a gallon while supplies last.

around 20 to 30 cents a gallon, depending where you were at. I remember working at a gas station in 1978, and people were complaining because the gas prices went up to around 65 cents a gallon. I'd sure like to see it at a dollar a gallon again.

In 1973 I lived in Kern County & we had an Oil Refinery, so the price of our gas was cheaper than other Southern California Areas. It ranged from 23 cents up to apx 55 cents per gallon depending on the brand & the octane rating!

Ahh, the good old days...I remember lining up for twenty five cent gas in 1973, the year I graduated from high school.

A cool car was the Boss Mustang or a Barracuda with four on the floor, headers, positrak rear end, could give you a good second gear scratch, and a top speed of at least 130. Seat belts were only in dragsters and the bed of the pickup was the best babysitter/carseat ever invented...Kids back there kept their mouth shut after eating a bug or two.
