basic of paint types, latex or water base is easiest, acrylic latex is great, flat paints used in most rooms hide most imperfections but hard to keep clean, semi-gloss used in bathrooms and such has a somewhat of a shine and easy to wipe clean but starts to show imperfections in the wall, gloss paint have a high sheen used in kitchens where things tend to get dirty quick, cleans easily but really show imperfections,,oil paints are difficult to use and no fun cleaning up but are more durable than latex so it comes down to personal preference hope this helps and good luck

Most good quality kitchen paints should be OK , But most household paints can only take a certain amount of abuse maybe you could try a boat hull paint bit pricey tho but very hard wearing failing that get rid of the kids and the dog that sort of thing is all part of having kids and pets it will get better eventually

I've heard really good things about Kilz paint. They use to only have white, but now it comes in a lot of colors. We're renovating right now and I'm going to use it through the whole house.

Crown soft sheen emulsion. Goes on lovely, and any marks can be wiped off.
I swear by it and have that brand all around my flat.
Also.. B & Q Everwhite for ceilings. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and is half the price of Dulux & Crown.
Trust me. I know.

I am a firm believer in Sherwin-Williams. They have an interior paint called "Duration Home". I found it on their website so that you may learn more about it, here is the link: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/sherwin_williams_products/interior_house_paint/paints.jsp

Crown and Dulux both have ranges that are made for just your situation. Also B&Q and Homebase do their own ranges of hard wearing paint.
