You should remember that most(I Know, not all) of these cases involve members of the Catholic "Church", which, contrary to popular belief, does not represent all churches, or church goers of the world. Most folks of the christian faith do not want to be affiliated, in anyway, with such a corrupt group. The catholic church was founded on corruption( This Was The Cause of the Protestant reformation so many years ago) and remains a corrupt organization. The catholic faith has overlooked corruption in the hierarchy for centuries. In the middle ages, one could purchase a pardon from the church, before having committed the sin! I won't bore you with a bunch of scripture references, historical facts speak for themselves. What other groups create there own spiritual hierarchy, crown a "pope", and in other ways seemingly worship a bunch of mortals. Christ died on the cross, in part to act as a messenger between man and God, so that people could take theirs sin, troubles, and anything else to God without going through such a corrupt heirarchy first(the jewish high priests lived by the same "code of ethics" in Christ's time). Why tell a priest your sins and troubles, when Christ says repeatedly to give your sins, your worries, and fears to him, and go about your day knowing that all is in his hands. I know you don't mean to be offensive when you refer to "the church", but I wish people would stop using that phrase. Please do not confuse the words catholic and christian, or group all in to one. Perverts do not belong in any church, however, and most churches that I know of, or have ever attended, would turn these pedophiles in to the authorities immediately.

The Baptist congregations prosecute such behavior. Immorality of any form on the part of a church official or congregant is not tolerated.

You are speaking of the Roman Catholic Church and not the Christian Church. And I don't know why they shield them either. It isn't right.
