I am nearsighted and my license expires in two weeks. I need glasses (currently I use mom's, who is also nearsighted, to drive with, just to be safe). But they're not my prescription.

My eye exam was taken a few months ago. Do I need a new one or would I be able to just go with that prescription?

And are there any ways I can get cheap or free glasses? Because I'm on a really low income, and if I bought glasses I'm not sure I could pay rent the following week.

I live in Greenville, SC, if that helps out with what my options are.

Okay, so my prescription is still available for two years. Would it still be accurate, though? Would my eyes have gotten worse in that time? Would it be worth it to get a new exam?

Also, could someone point me towards where I can find out about a Lion's club in my area? Short of just searching for it on the web, I'm not sure how to find out about this information. Thanks ahead of time! ^_^

In Michigan, we have the Lions Clubs who help low income people get their glasses. They have fund raisers each year for just that. Also, people donate their old glasses to the Club, and the Eye doctors can regrind some of them to comply with some prescriptions so they can be free, or VERY low cost. I'd check around and see if you have someone like that in SC.

Yes, the prescription will be good for a whole year and you can request it to be sent to any place you choose to get your glasses.

There are some nice glasses at drug stores like CVS that you can try on and see how well they do for you. They only cost around $15 and some are very attractive. I wouldn't recommend that you use them as a permanent thing but they are certainly fine until you can afford to get some better glasses. I carry some with me wherever I go.

CVS has them with many different readings so check them out - try them on and be certain you can see as well as you want to before buying.

i think you should to go get a new prescription from an optometrist or an optician.

there may be some changes in your prescription as you have been wearing the wrong prescription for a long time (your mother's glasses)

Some people may think that your 2years old prescription can still be used. I begged to differ. i suggest that you should check your latest prescription then you make a new pair of spectacle.

if you need financial assistance, you can apply from charity organisations.

Your eye glass prescription is good for 2 years. You can go to where it is and get a copy and get your glasses anywhere you want. Try Americas Best Eye Glasses. I think you can get a pair for 39.99

Your prescription should be good for two years. Do you have Lion's Club hear you? I know they have a program for eyeglasses. If not, check with a social services agency for help, do not be embarrassed to ask for help if you need it.
