I love my two Chihuahuas because:
1. They get so excited everytime they see me. I could be away just 5 min and they act like they haven't seen me in days.
2. They are great at alerting me to snakes. They will bark and bark until I come out to catch it. Unfortunately, one of them bit my dog and almost killed him. But after emergency treatment he survived.
3. They are very loyal. When I go jogging, they dig out of the yard and follow me, sometimes a mile. The male one never leaves the the house more than 100ft but he will follow me for miles just to be with me.
4. Their hearing is incredible. I could have the TV up at max but they start barking because they hear something outside.
5. Great at catching mice. I actually witnessed them working together to catch a mouse and kill it.
6. They are so cute!

LOL where to start.
I breed and raise Chihuahuas so my opinion is extremely bias.
There are so many "best" things about them.
They will be the most ferocious monsters that ever stalked on toothpick legs if they see someone coming toward their human.
Of course if the aggressive approach doesn't work they can always lick the intruder to death.
All Chihuahua are not yappy and ill natured little creatures. Some are so friendly and lovable and have the most expressive little faces.
When they look at you with those huge, sad, heart-breaking eyes(especially if you have food they KNOW they are not allowed to have) it is just sooooo not possible to deny them anything their little hearts desire.
They are always willing to give a snuggle when you need one..... any time day or night. No reason required.
But, if I have to choose one thing, for me it would be the complete utter devotion, trust and love they will give the human they claim as their own. It will never waiver, regardless of the circumstances.

They fit easily into overhead compartments?
I, personally, don't care much for the breed. But, to each his own.
I guess if I had to have a reason to like them, it'd be their loyalty to their owners. However, this, more often than not, makes them nasty towards strangers. Nip that behavior in the butt early enough, along with treating them like a dog instead of a baby, and you'll have yourself an excellent Chihuahua.

The nice thing about chihuahuas is that you don't really need to walk them.
They're energetic as is and they're always wanting to play so they keep their small/petite size.
Other good things about chihuahuas is their compatibility with other dogs and the such.
They may act tough, but they're really not that willing to hurt. Well, unless you don't make them uccostomed to people and other animals.
A bad thing?
They get really mean once they're comfortable.

The best thing about my chihuahua is the way she lays her head underneath my chin every night. She knows she is "the baby"- and acts like one too!

Unlike ferrets, they are not illegal to have as pets, and they can be ablout the same size, so they are an O.K. substitute.
(and as a rule, they smell better than ferrets.)
