Yeah. They test the temperature of the water to see if it is too hot or too cold.

My cat does that too. Actually, he move the bowl sometimes before he drinks. I was wandering about that too until I realized that when he wasn't doing that, he would stick his mouth in there too far and get water up his nose. Cats can't percieve still objects very well so they can't see the level of the water in the bowl. So I think when they do that they are trying to get the water to move a bit so they can judge how much of it is in there.

Anyway, as crazy as it sounds that's the only explenation I came up with. All my cats do it and I just had to come up with an explenation.

One of my cats Bonkers will stick his paw in water and use his paw like a spoon and drink the water out of his paw. I have no clue why he started doing that but it sure is cute. Maybe it feels good on his paw. Maybe he doesnt want to get water on his face or whiskers.. Maybe he's just too dang lazy to stick his face in there. I think he's just a goof..

My male cat does this, and he is the only one I have ever seen do this. I am glad I am not the only one.

I think they do it to test the temperature of the water and to cleantheir paw at the same time. Also it may not be as much strain on his neck to bend all the way down to drink out of his bowl.

Isn't it cute though? My cats name is Mittens.

hope my paw takes a bath when ever he feels like it!

oh wrong paw LOL (pa) one reason I think they do it is because dogs and maybe cats too only see white and black no colors what so ever only levels of gray and they relieon feel in that case.

I know dogs see in black and white and you can feed anything hot to a cat like a hot pepper and it will not phase the cat in the least bit they can not taste hot things like that

what creatures lack in one field they patch up the problem with another ability (example: a bug with no eyes but feelers?

oh one last thing: I sometimes dip my hand in the bowl before I drink water too LOL MEOW!! * * * joking * * *

There you go!) GET ER DONE!

between the main comfortable factors of the cat’s physique is the paw pad. Cats pat products to aim them, to be certain if the toy strikes, the food is purely too warm, or if the water is risk-free. additionally, whether many cats dislike getting moist, they do savour fidgeting with water. The water bowl is a appropriate place to paddle. So your cat may be enjoying, or actually “testing the waters” till now eating.

She is maybe taking the temperture of the water to see if it is the right temp. If not then she would not drink it. Some cats are are mentally smart to do that! No worries, My cousin is a cat expert!

One of my cats does this, the other doesn't. The one cat that does it, though, is a little strange. She also sometimes scoops her food into the water bowl, I guess to soften it even though it's not very hard, and then eats it from there.

My cat does that if she wants a drink out of my milk glass and the milk is too low for her to stick her head in to get a drink.

My cat uses her drinking water dish to wash her paws off after using her litter box, and I keep having to change the water!

She'll use the toilet to drink from, but her drinking water to wash herself in. It's cute, but frustrating, but it's not fair to our other cat who just wants to use it to drink from.

Yes, all 4 of my cats do this. I can't figure out why. 2 of them scratch at the ground right next to their food bowl when they are done eating too, like they are covering up their "business"
