I'm going to Kaua'i, but before I get there I stop in Kona and Honolulu. My question is do I need to check in at the front desk each time I stop, or do I just go to the gate and get my boarding pass there?

different in every case/place/line, just call the 800 number for airline & ask or go to their web site & contact them and ask - they'll email an answer

You should be able to check in for all flights right at the beginning. The airline should be able to check your luggage right through to Kaua'i and issue you with boarding passes for all sectors. This si the case if you are travelling on the same airline for all flights or if the airlines you are travelling between have an agreement. You will probably need to ask when you check in. Or call the first airline you are flying with if you need to know beforehand.

Just go to the gate. When I was flying I just went to the gate once I was checked in. They have all the imfomation on you there.
Or you could call the airlines and ask them to be for sure. I never been to Honolulu before just flew all around the USA only.
Have a great trip!
God be with you to keep you safe.
