There is something interesting in the original Hebrew of Genesis 1:1. The definite article "the" is not there. So, it would problably be more accurate to translate Genesis 1:1 as something like, "When God began creating the heavens and the earth," and make it an introductory temporal clause to Genesis 1:2. In addition to being a better translation of the original Hebrew, this also makes the Genesis creation story very consistant with other ancient near-eastern creation stories.

In my opinion, the important thing about the first chapter of Genesis is not when it happened, where it happened, or how long it took. Rather, the important thing is that God created world.

the bible says that for God, one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day. from human perspective, the timing may be way different then from God's perspective. When the earth was created, the tree were created grown. So, chronologically, they were only one day old, but biologically, it took them 100 years to get that big. When Adam was created, chronologically he was 1 day old, but he wasn't a new born baby. he was a grown man. so the timing of God is impossible for people to tell.

God has no beginning and no end. We have a beginning. Our beginning was when the Lord set the earth in motion.

About 6000 to 7000 years ago. I also agree carbon dating is a joke. It once showed that a live snail was 40,000 years old.......The theory that the Earth is 13 billion years old is just that......a theory........a very stupid theory at that........It's much easier to believe in a creator and creation than it is to believe people came from a piece of slime that washed out of the ocean, billions of years ago.

I just have to laugh at people who think that the world is only 10,000 years old. It's one of the most preposterous ideas in the history of mankind.
