Depends on how sick the person is. If all we are dealing with is worsening ascites or encephalopathy, they may be okay. Unfortunately, it can be quite variable.

If there is renal involvement specifically hepato-renal syndrome mortality is close to 100%

From personal experience, the last 3 patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis of the liver all died.
