Oh, very much so, and like yourself, often after reading some, it is so easy to sit down and write something better. Guys are so gifted because poetry is a perfect channel for their gut feelings. You don't need to write complete sentences, just impressions and things you are feeling all around you. You may well find that your own interest in poetry will begin by taking the form of keeping a journal in which you write a few of your own lines. If you have musical ability, and I am feeling that you definitely do, then it would not be too much of a stretch of the imagination to set your poetry to music. To stretch your imagination even further, it would not surprise this writer for you to gather fifteen to eighteen of your songs with your own words and actually get them transfered to a music CD. Am I a pie-in-the-sky optimist? Not at all. When a guy like yourself taps into that creative place where his feelings are giving form to words and pictures, it is such a short distance to getting them organized and published. You probably even know a friend who has alrready done this. I send this to you with loads of positive energy and encourage you to express your feelings in word, verse, music and to do it now while you are young enough to shape the forms it will take and will be able to enjoy the financial success which comes from speaking from your heart. Take good care, now, Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

absolutely; everybody (male/fem) has that cold rinse or spread of warmth that comes with the tuning to life. Poetry is the way in. Personally, it's the best remedy when you're feeling down, even better if you're outside and have a view to look at.... and you might have combined it with exercise..... even better. Don't listen to those that call you a romantic. You know that already and so what!

I'm a rapper
What does that mean?
It means I rap, You know, baggy pants, book bags, baseball caps.
Oh, a backpacker?
No, a rapper. You know, 40s and blunts, bitches and gats.
Oh, a gangsta?
No, a rapper, I rap. I like shell-toes, break beats, kung-fu flicks.
Like a b-girl?
Well, that's not quite it. I sweat myself, I grob my crotch, I curse a lot.
Oh, you're from Brooklyn?
No, a rapper, but point tooken. I'm ghetto in the suburbs, to white boys I'm niggas, they pay for my studio time---I'll complain they're ****ing me later. I go to jail a lot, I'm hard-core.
A thug?
It's bugged. I write poetry, I have a deep-seated need to be loved. I stand in circles, I roll with crews. I require affirmation, know what I mean?
Word, true.
I represent, I hold it down in the streets.
Oh, you're gravity?
No, a rapper. I rock lyrics over beats.
Oh, an MC?
Yes.
J-Live, 'I'm a Rapper', from the album 'All Of The Above'.

Yes it is normal for a guy to like poetry. I am one of those guys, and every greetings card I send I make up my own poems which are apt to the event.
On several occasions I have been asked to write poems for a funeral service or for a wedding reception. My poems are simple to compose as I listen to my heart and write what it tells me. Does that make me sound stupid???

I only know poets like Byron,Burns, and Robert Fergusson,I dont know much about Byrons private life, but Burn was a mans man,I love Robert Burns, not in any way sexual, just the man ,his life, and his poetry,In my younger years I was a bit wild and mixed up in trouble with the law and out of my head,I had a nervous breakdown at 15 years old which ran its course 10-11years,During that time I attempted suicide,[a genuine attempt]I reached the depth of despair, only one thing kept me in touch with reality,Robert Burns and his poetry,i've never tired of him.and Fergusson,By the way, more than once i've been described as"a Glasgow hard man"Find a poet you like,Read him/her till you KNOW what He means ,till you understand him,you will not be disappointed.
